April 4, 2018: Still Watching

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 1

Are you still watching?  I’m talking about the Bulls and Blackhawks of course.  Split decision for me.

I have no interest in watching the Bulls any more this year.  I’ve been feeling like that for a while already, which is one of the reasons I haven’t wrote anything about them lately.  It’s a contributing reason why it’s been a little hard keeping up with the blog the last couple months.  What am I going to say about the Bulls that hasn’t already been said right here on these pages?

The whole tanking thing just doesn’t sit right with me.  I get it, and I do want the Bulls to get the highest possible pick, but… I’ve already explained this.  I have seen that they’ve won a few recently, which isn’t helping that cause.  I saw Lavine, Dunn, and now Valentine, shut down for the year.  Will the Bulls be more watchable next year?  They have to be right?  Although I think I read Paxson saying not much will change with the roster… fun times.

I have been watching the Blackhawks though.  I missed a few games, but have tried to tune in when I can.  The whole game where the 3rd string goalie came in and saved all seven shots he faced was just awesome.  I got a huge kick out of watching that game develop, and seeing how it ended.  Seabs 1000th game, Sykura’s first points, the one goalie’s first win, and the appearance of Foster.  I tuned into the game against the Blues too.

It was rivalry night, and the Hawks were trying to ruin the Blues season… as if the Blues typically need help with that.  A couple of the Blackhawks said before the game they’d love to do that.  They did.  In a very strange game, the Hawks were down 3-1 early… that’s not strange, but the fact that they came back and tied it at 3, and won it with 8 seconds left… memories… Where has this been all season?

I was thinking about getting to the UC one more time, but looking at Friday night’s rematch against the Blues, the ticket prices aren’t where I thought they would be.  Maybe because it’s the last home game of the year.  Maybe because like me, others still make the effort to watch the Hawks.  If the prices drop, I may be there… but not looking too likely right now.

Regardless who’s still watching, the basketball/hockey season has been a disastrous one.  No playoffs…   It will be an early and seamless transition to the Cubs; thankfully they’re locked and loaded for another run at it.  With the Bulls nowhere near it, and the Blackhawks trending the wrong direction, baseball season is a welcome sight… it always is, but especially this year.

4 more games for the Bulls & 2 more games for the Hawks.  Just put us out of our misery already.  I’ll always love & root for them, but I’m ready for both seasons to be over.  Have a good vacation boys.

Definitely not easy to keep watching knowing your teams will not be making the playoffs. We have known this about the Bulls all season. As much as they try to tank, there are still 7 or 8 teams doing a better job of that. Shutting guys down for the season may guarantee not winning another game. I cannot imagine another year of hopeless basketball for the Bulls. Tanking sucks, plus it ain’t easy. As for the Bhawks, the missing the playoffs for the first time in 10 years did not hit home until a few weeks ago. Maybe we just did not want to admit it, but it is now a reality. That 3rd string goalie coming off the bench and getting the W was cool…something new to learn as well since I do not remember that ever happening. If the Bulls will not be making many moves, we shall see what the Bhawks do. I already see that Bowman and Q will be kept…kind of surprising if you ask me. Obviously, we do not know everything going on behind the scenes, but it just seemed like a perfect time for a new coach to step in and get this squad going again. Who knows, I might be wrong. As both seasons mercifully come to an end, we look forward to their offseasons, but more importantly, Cubs baseball!
