December 10, 2017: A Month Late

posted in: Bears | 1

Were you thinking what I was thinking watching the Bears kick the Bengals’ ass?  This performance was about a month late.

Man if they would have came out that first week after the bye and kicked the Packers ass like this… who knows where we’d be right now.  As it sits, the Bears recorded their 4th win of the year a month later in Cincy.  Although it’s nice to win, I still wonder what could have been… then I wonder what could be… If Sunday’s performance was any indication, there are certainly brighter days ahead.

But it was the Bungles… and they certainly looked like they didn’t give a rat’s ass.  They were hit hard by injuries, but they’re not getting any sympathy from me on that one; join the club!  They still had AJ Green, and we basically shut him down.  And on offense… geez, where did this juggernaut come from?

I was thinking how hard it is to give it your all in games that are essentially meaningless.  With both teams out of the playoffs, the race for the higher draft pick was on… but, you never want to go out and purposely lose.  You never want to hit the field and give the type of effort the Bengals gave.  On the flip side, the effort that the Bears brought on this day was much appreciated.

They haven’t packed it in; they haven’t sold it all up a creek for that draft pick.  I also think that the guys must like each other, they must like football, they must collectively see a brighter future to come out and play like they did.  To be fair, the coaches were on point in this one too; does that change your opinion on our offseason coaching decisions?

Why is it just so hard to enjoy a victory?  Simple… just enjoy the fact that we won a game.  Not talk about how we’re messing up our draft position, how the coaches saved their jobs, how this is the future, and whatever other extreme statement you can make in a one game bubble.  That’s the NFL though; you live and die week to week.  No other sport is more break neck in that fashion.  It’s either you’re the worst team in the league or you’re Super Bowl bound all based on one week’s performance.  Yes, I’m exaggerating a bit, but I couldn’t help but think that if THIS was the Bears future, it certainly looks damn bright; I can get really excited about that.  Again, it was the Bungles….

But again, it shouldn’t matter.  I’m happy to see the Bears kick somebody’s ass; Lord knows we’ve received our share of them over the recent years.  Trubisky looked great, our young TE looked the part, we ran the ball down their throats, our defense played great, and our kicking game was….  OK, so we still have some issues, but for a day, it looked like the type of team that I want to watch.  The type of team that I clear my Sundays for… that I gear up for… that I foam at the mouth for.  It’s been a rough few years…

So although the Bears were a month late with this performance, I’m going to hope that this Sunday’s performance was a year early instead.  Bear Down!

A performance like that does make you wonder what could have been. Did the Bears really just put it all together vs the bungles? Or are the bungles that bad? Hard to say but probably a combination of both. The Bears D has shown flashes for much of the year. They did a great job shutting down aj green. Eddie Jackson seems like he will be a long-time playmaker for the Bears as safety after a int, forced fumble, and fumble recovery. Offensively, MTru was great as was the running game as Howard and Cohen ran wild. It was very good to see and will hopefully be a glimpse into the Bears future starting next year. 3 games left and already a better record than last year. How many more will the Bears win? Stay tuned as they will play at 3pm on Saturday vs the lions. BEAR DOWN!!!
