It had been an eventful week. Six days earlier, the mighty Bears were handed their first loss in Miami on Monday Night Football. On Tuesday, they had recorded the Super Bowl shuffle. Now Sunday, back home in Soldier Field, they had to prepare for a Colts team that scared no one.

A little less than 2 years ago, this franchise had picked up and packed up in the middle of the night and high tailed it out of Baltimore. Now, on their way to a 5-11 season, this team made up of Mike Pagel, Randy McMillan, and Wayne Capers visited the Monsters of the Midway.  What a fricking mismatch. For the record, that was their QB, RB, and WR. On top of the huge talent gap, you have the Bears coming off their first loss of the season. I’m thinking blowout, what about you?

Papa Vegas agreed. 19.5 point favorites!!!  And I still bet there was a ton of action on the Bears side. Honestly, no point total would be out of the question…not this year…not this team…not any opponent, especially these bums. Well, that’s why they play the games. Even those who teased this down to 12.5 would be the owners of a losing ticket on this Sunday.

To put a positive spin on such bearish musings, on numerous past occasions (i.e. 1987, 1990, 1998, 2002) the market bottomed out during the buy viagra where month of October. One guy who never sleepwalked through any play, let alone a game, was Sweetness. He recorded his 9th straight 100 yard rushing performance, including a 16 yard TD run.  That was an NFL record at the time. He owned many of those. The main thing at this point for the Bears was keeping everybody healthy. The postseason was a given, as was home field. With the undefeated season by the books, the only goal remaining was hoisting that Super Bowl trophy. The Colts became the latest victims that week.

I would have loved to see these Bears matched up with the Colts that took us out 20 years later.  Yes, that Super Bowl was in Miami… Damn, another big loss there, but don’t think it would have mattered where or who this team played. I bet Peyton’s jersey wouldn’t have been clean in that matchup. Peyton?  Who the heck spells Payton that way anyways. There’s only one Payton baby. That short dink and dunk passing game garbage that we never adjusted to… ha!  With the CBs up in the WRs grill and the pressure pouring in on Manning, it would have been different that’s for sure.  Then you insert McMahon for Sexy Rexy, and the offense would have scored a bunch. I still thought those 2005 Bears had a good chance to win that game. A wasted opportunity to get our 2nd Super Bowl.

Matching up these 85 Bears with any other Super Bowl winner would see the Bears as favorites, so those Colts would not be alone. These Colts in week 14 of the 85 season almost got lucky, but even on an off day, the result was still the same. Next up, a trip to New York to face the J E T S jets jets jets. Week 15 is next.
