December 30, 2017: Losing Wade

posted in: Cubs | 2

Mr. perfect is gone.  Yes, I know Curt Henning has been gone for a while, but I’m talking about Wade Davis.  He signed with the Colorado Rockies.  It’s official.

He will make more per year than any other reliever in the history of the game.  Yes, take a minute to soak that in.  I loved Wade, but did he deserve to be the highest paid reliever of all time?  If going almost perfect in save opportunities counts for anything, the answer is yes.

But we knew the Cubs weren’t going to pay him.  All we have to do is look to the previous offseason.  We let superman Aroldis Chapman walk for the same reason.  The only reason we didn’t miss Chappy more than we did, was because of Wade.  Can the Cubs get lucky like that two years in a row?

Is Brandon Morrow the answer?  Steve Cishek?  Carl Edwards anyone?  Those are nice names, but certainly none that are going to make us forget about Wade…or is there?  Was it more than just the pitcher?  Was it the system, the coaching that helped us have super closers the last year and a half?

Well Bosio is gone too, if you think he had anything to do with it.  Now Hickey will try to squeeze an ace starter out of one of these three guys.  If not, there’s always the trade deadline…
I should also bear in mind that Tadalafil should not be taken with grapefruit and alcohol as nicely as abnormal gambling, that is starting https://unica-web.com/buy-2996 viagra on line australia to be detrimental to your health as well. The treatment might have some sildenafil 100mg tablet side effects. This creates order tadalafil from india a vacuum that pulls blood into your penis. These pills can either be testosterone drugs or PDE5 inhibitors like cialis sale continue reading for more info now, Sidenafil, Lavitra, etc.
If the Cubs are in position, which we all believe they will be, and if the weakest link on this team is the closer, you know for sure that Theo and company will go get one at the deadline.  How much could it hurt to wait and see how this thing plays out?  Well, we certainly don’t want to dig ourselves a hole…

But there is another pitching position that the Cubs still need to address, and that’s another starter.  Archer, Darvish, Cobb…I’m still holding out a sliver of hope for Jake.  The need for another starter outweighs the need for another arm in the pen at this point in time, no?

With the Cubs now, with Theo, the trust is higher than ever.  Have they been perfect?  No.  Was letting Chapman and Fowler walk the cause for our downfall?  The Wilson deal bombed out. The Quintana deal?  I still love that one; we’ll see really shortly how that is going to pan out.  What if they moved Russell for Machado?

Just because I trust them, doesn’t mean I have to agree with every move.  Nobody can be right all the time.  Will losing Wade come back and haunt us this year?  Can’t wait for baseball. Go Cubs!

Congrats to WD71! He did a great job for the Cubs last year even though it did not end up the way anyone would have liked…not his fault. But we all knew he was gone. No way were the Cubs going to pay him like the rockies just did. Highest paid reliever ever? I like WD71 and all but please. 1 perfect year with a bunch of other good years now makes him the highest paid reliever…way to go WD71 but no thanks! Good luck this year in coors field. Now it is up to Theo and the Cubs to fill the void. It is definitely an important position that may still get addressed. Will one of the new guys step up? Will a mid-season acquisition be needed? Still a bunch of questions for Theo to get answers for, but you are right, the trust could not be higher. We might not like certain moves, but we have to trust the process. It has proven to be top notch! GO CUBS GO!!!
