December 7, 2017: Chatty

posted in: Cubs | 1

Speaking of those stockings… Cubs fans DID have something in there, and his name is Tyler Chatwood.  He’s already got a Blackhawks like nickname; they call him Chatty.

First thing I thought of was, oh no, a Rockies pitcher?  Who the heck in the right mind would want to pitch in Colorado?  Just a brutal, brutal spot for pitchers.  Looking at any pitcher’s performance at Coors has to be taken with a grain of salt.  But looking at their road performance…

And when you look at his road performance, it’s stellar.  I think I read only 1 pitcher had a better road ERA in 2017; whoa.  At 3 years, 38 million (?), it seems like a pretty reasonable investment.  The guy does have an injury history; you never know when these arms will give out.  If he could stay healthy, I guess I like the move.

He’s better than Lackey, but currently he sits at 4 in the rotation.  Lester, Q, Hendricks, and now Chatwood.  He’ll fit in nicely as the 5th starter when it’s all said and done hopefully.  Don’t think the Cubs are done looking for pitching by a long shot.

There’s that Japanese player that everybody is seemingly holding their breath for.  He can pitch and hit?  That’s the word on the street; I’m sure there’s plenty of proof to back that up too.  Can you imagine that?  Guy who can pitch every 5th day, and play every other day as a position player.  Anybody ever do that?

And then there’s still Stanton out there.  He’s waived his no trade clause for the Cubs; he didn’t do that for the Cardinals.  That makes me smile.  Stanton would only be landed in a trade, and that trade would most likely have to include Heyward; any objections?  The Marlins may object to that, or maybe they don’t really care at this point.  Jeter surely seems set on running this team into the ground before building it back up.  Let us help you do that.

And back to pitching…there has been no indication that Jake or Wade would be back.  That leaves two more holes to fill.  Alex Cobb, another pitcher with an injury history, another ex-Ray, has been talked about a lot.   Different guys in the pen have been talked about too, including Brandon Morrow.   With the winter meetings coming up, we shall see how the dice roll.  Theo at his finest.

Can’t wait…can’t wait for Cubs baseball to return.  The other day I watched some World Series highlights; I cried.  It was the first time in a long time I had watched them; I think they’ll always have the same effect.  Ready to make some more highlights.   Go Cubs!

Welcome to the Chicago Cubs Tyler Chatwood! Let’s hope your arm holds up as you seem to be a good fit in the rotation. Anybody going from Coors Field to anywhere else probably lets out a sigh of relief. Hopefully, Chatwood can keep make his road era his permanent era with the Cubbies.
As for the Japanese star, I say take a pass. The guy will want too much money, plus who knows if his talent is transferrable to the mlb. Remember fukudome? Still got that headband? HAHAHA.
Stanton would require the Cubs giving up some big pieces unless jeter is happy with future picks. Imagine him in the Cubs order? Oh boy!
I still think Jake will be back but DW71 will not. Theo will do his thing and set the Cubs up nicely for another World Series run. The 2016 highlights, yeah, those always end up with tears of joy! This may not be another Cubs Christmas as it was last year, but any Chicago gear is always welcome!
