February 11, 2018: Snow Sharks

With over a foot of snow on the ground, how would the attendance be over the weekend for our weekly floor hockey game?  We ended up having the minimum… six kids showed up and the snow Sharks were ready for another game.

I wasn’t lying; I enjoyed coaching our basketball team.  It was tough, not winning, but it was still fun.  But faced with the alternative of actually winning games vs not winning any games, I’m taking winning all day every day.  This season will feature a bunch of winning.

This Saturday brought another win… a shutout in fact.  One of our girls scored a goal from halfcourt; that was pretty cool.  She was also in goal in the 3rd, where we faced our first shots on goal; she held the shutout.  She is one of our best players.  Another one of them scored the hat trick.  He was all over the place, punching them in, adding to the blowout.  I honestly don’t remember the final… maybe 6-0?  It was never in question.

One of the non-stars on our team almost scored a goal too.  He was in position as the puck slowly rolled in front of him; he wasn’t able to convert.  My son had a good chance too.  He was right in front of the net and tried to stuff it in.  The goalie made a nice play preventing my son from scoring for the first time.  Overall, he played a lot better than the previous week.  He was back in goal for the 2nd period, and kept his scoreless streak alive.  He ran hard after the puck, and mixed it up in some of the scrums.  He was actually showing some pretty nifty stick handling ability behind the net.  He just needs to keep this up…. and that first goal will be coming soon.

There is only one team left in the league that we have not played, and from what I heard, we will be the better team against them too.  But before facing them, we’ll face the 2nd best team in the league in a Friday night tilt.  An early season loss may prove just as valuable as all these wins.  Keeping the kids honest…. and grounded… yeah, they’re probably too young for all that… forget losing… haha.

But could all this winning be boring?  Was all that losing boring in basketball?  I would like to see exciting games, like the first time around vs our opponent on Friday.  I liked some of those basketball games when we were in it…  Close game victories is ideal, but again, who am I to be picky about what type of win?  I would have loved just to get ONE win all season last season.  To the continued undefeated season… let’s so Sharks!

Way to go snow Sharks! Having just the minimum means everybody plays the whole game. I like it! Glad to hear my nephew kept his scoreless streak in net going. Can’t wait to hear that first goal scored! Sounds similar to the basketball season when he got his first bucket mid-season…warming up! At this age, winning is never boring. Piling on the goals isn’t, either…hahaha. I would love a close game, too, but winning is winning for the young kids, and it sure as hell beats losing. Goodluck on the Friday night tilt…stay undefeated! GO SHARKS!!!
