February 14, 2018: Halfway to the Draft

posted in: Bulls | 1

That’s the way to end the first half.  The Bulls got stomped by the Raptors in their final game before the All Star break.  This is what I like to see.  Let’s check how we’re looking halfway to the draft.

20-37 which is actually a lot more than halfway through the season, looks pretty good, considering the worst team in the NBA has 18 wins.  But… a closer look at the bottom of the NBA standings reveals a problem.  There are SIX teams with 18 wins, and one team with 19 wins.  Yep, that’s 7 teams worse than the Bulls thus far.

It’s not a perfect science… I mean, we could still get the top pick, but our chances will not be good… if the draft order was picked today.  But it’s not… plenty of time to earn that pick.  How do we do it?

Send Markkanen home to be with his baby for the rest of the season.  Let’s be honest… this kid is too good too soon, and is really throwing a wrench into the tanking.  Haha…  I love this kid, and expect big things from him in his career.  But no need for him to accomplish anything else this year.

Start Felicio ASAP.  This guy must have been listening to DWade in the locker room last year about his lesson regarding how to steal money from a franchise.  Good lord… why did we sign this guy again?  Looks like it went straight to his stomach; he’s looked bad.  So… get him out there, and play him early and often.  He could be the key to achieving our goal this year.

Just a few thoughts at the halfway point.  Honestly, this season has been a lot more enjoyable than I expected.  This season has seen my hate for GarPax be pushed to the side, as I anxiously await to see what position we end up in the draft.  Oh yeah, and there is that top 5 protected pick we got from the Pelicans… suckers.  They’re sitting in the 8 seed out West right now, but without crazy Cousins, should decline from here on out.  Can you say number 6 pick?

Yes, and if that’s the case, and if the Bulls get two top 10 draft picks in this year’s draft, watch out.  The rebuild would have got the luck it needed, and as early as next year, we could see dividends… back to the playoffs I’m thinking.  Not too bad… not too bad at all.  Keep on losing boys… Go Bulls!

The unofficial first half to the season comes for the Bulls, and it finds them with 20 wins. Did you think they would have that many? I think I remember predicting less than 30 wins for the entire season. If that is true, they better get on with the tanking! Markk has definitely been a huge bright spot for the Bulls. Not sure anybody would have thought that he would be this good so early. He seems like he can do it all and will continue to get better. I could see yearly all star for sure. As for lavine, I think it may be too early to judge due to his injury. He has been back for a bunch of games, sure, but it is an ACL recovery. I like him but not sure he will be a yearly all star unless he works on his jump shot game, mid-range and treycola! Dunn has had some impressive spots but has been injured, too. Rolo is an important locker room piece for now. I actually liked felicio and thought he was one of the dirty work guys, but it sure does seem like he found a bunch of pounds. Maybe he can play his way back into shape with more minutes? 2 top 10 picks would accelerate the process…hopefully. There is still the chance that the pels and/or Bulls keep winning more games than they should. Plus, garpax has the chance to screw things up still. TBD for sure…GO BULLS!!!
