January 24, 2016: Best Football Day of the Year

posted in: Bears | 2

Today is the best football day of the year. Don’t you agree?

Maybe your favorite day is opening day. A fresh start to another 22 weeks of football bliss. All teams have a chance. Everybody is tied for first place.  You still have a shot at your fantasy title. Hope springs eternal.

Or maybe the Super Bowl is king. I mean, the Super Bowl IS king, but it’s not the best day of the year. First off, it’s when the whole world watches…all these people who don’t have a clue about football. Amateur city.  Kind of like New Years Eve for partiers. Secondly, it’s the end of football season.  Maybe your team has been done for a while, like our Bears, but at least there are more games to watch, even if you don’t watch as closely like me. Super bowl Sunday is the end for football…unless you’re NFL network. Finally, because the game is fixed. It’s the biggest fixed game of the year. They have two weeks to practice it.  They make sure eveything goes accordingly to plan. Not saying all games aren’t or are fixed, but the super bowl, yeah.

But NFL championship Sunday is IT.  Two games are better than one for starters.  The teams are more familiar with one another, which adds history and background to the game making it better…times two!  This Sunday is no different.

Manning vs Brady 17.  The 17th matchup between the two.  Is this the last time?  Is Manning done?  Got a picture of Manning singing his commercial song…Brady’s going to kick my ass.  Funny stuff.  We should appreciate this though.  Heard earlier this week…Elway Marino only met 3 times their entire decade and a half careers.    As far as the other tilt, the first matchup of Heisman Trophy winners.  Newton vs Palmer is a great matchup as well.  The two best teams in the NFC will meet later this afternoon.  Now time for my picks.

I’m flip flopping on my first.  I’m taking Denver +3.  Home doggie!  Better defense.  Everybody is on the Pats.  Ed Hochuli reffing the game.  In the second game, I’m going with Arizona +3.  I’m sticking with my original pick for this game.  All year I’ve said I’d take the Cards in a Cards Panthers matchup, so here you go.  Arizona is my super bowl pick too.

Good luck with your picks and enjoy the best football day of the year.
