July 26, 2017: A Break For Rose

posted in: Bulls | 2

Let’s take a quick break from the crosstown mismatch to talk about the latest ex-Bull who has found a new team.  Derrick Rose has signed a one year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wow.

I loved him then I hated him.  (Hate File here –> http://www.thelocalsportstalk.com/september-20-2016-the-hate-files-xxv/). Overall it’s been a tragic career for him, unless of course you factor in all the money he has made; then it’s been pretty damn good.  But he hasn’t won crap.  And now, he becomes the latest ring chaser to jump on LeBron’s gravy train.  My how far we have come.

I thought maybe I could root for Rose again one day; that day has not arrived yet.  I can’t root for the Cavs as long as LeBron is there, which may only be one more year before he leaves those saps again and heads west to play for Magic who will promise him that he will say he’s better than MJ.  Even the home town kid can only stand living in Cleveland so long.

And now Rose is there.  He’s not that good any more; he hasn’t been in a while.  Guess that fact explains why he’ll be making less money than Cameron Payne; you know, the Bulls PG of the future.  But money doesn’t seem to be as important any more?  He couldn’t stop talking about the max deal he was going to get before he started his last season under contract with the Bulls.  Hopefully, with all the money he’s already made, he doesn’t need any more.  You got to think PJs future is set; he won’t have to worry about money either, or his kids, or his kids’ kids.  All those millions and millions of dollars will hopefully be able to provide generational wealth.

So NOW he cares more about winning?  After all the money has been made; at least he came around eventually.  Playing with LeBron in the East pretty much guarantees a trip to the Conference Finals.  I remember Rose’s first conference finals years ago…  After beating the Heat in Game 1, the Bulls didn’t win another game.  Rose was snuffed out by LeBron and the Heat’s defense.  Derrick almost seemed a bit intimidated by James… afraid to take him off the dribble, and go to the rim with reckless abandon like he was doing back then.  But I didn’t hold THAT against him; like I said a few days ago, our dues payment was made, and we were ready to reap the benefits the following years.  Those benefits never came.

But it looks like Rose will make it back at least to the Conference Finals, and very possibly the Finals; again, playing with the best player in the league in an extremely weak conference is very helpful.  I’m not rooting for him now; will I root for him if/when this happens?  I always like to support Chicago guys, unless your name is Isaiah Thomas.  Derrick is a kid from Chicago…  Maybe by then, I’ll find it in my heart to root for him again.  Maybe that will be the only good thing about the Cavs winning again.  Maybe I won’t care.

I just donated an old poster of Rose to the Salvation Army; look for it on shelves in the next couple weeks.  I’m sure you can pick it up for $5.  I already sold the Rose jersey I had been given when I was a season ticket holder; I got $10 for that.  I still have his bobblehead…  There isn’t really anyone I can compare to Rose and his story.  The extreme opposite feelings that I have had for him over his career.  I definitely don’t love him anymore, but maybe I don’t hate him as much as I said I did… like any of that really matters.  Maybe if he went to another team we could move past this… but the Cavs… with Lebron…  This may seem like a break for Rose, but going to play for LeBron, doesn’t make this any easier.

What a joke! The very guy that stood in his way and could not get past is now a teammate. Yep, sounds about right with these guys nowadays. Cant beat em, join em. The problem with drose is that he talks. If he just shut up, maybe I wouldn’t be so hard on the guy. I guess it is to be expected when he is dumb as rocks. Dumb shit comes out of his mouth. From wanting more money when he was still under contract to saying that maybe NY will appreciate him more. The hits continue out of his mouth. This is a guy that I backed 100%. Hometown kid playing for the Bulls. MVP. Led Bulls to the playoffs and conference finals. Then gets hurt. Time and time and time again. He still had our support even though we questioned why he wasn’t playing at times. Then still under contract, talk about him getting a max contract in a year or two. Yeah, ok. How far he has fallen. Enjoy the $2.1 million and riding the queen. Now it is about winning and not money? Now you don’t care about the max contract? Now you think you have enough money? PLEASE. Go ahead and enjoy the easy ride to the finals. That is, if you don’t get hurt for the 6th or 7th time. You will get no sympathy or cheers from me…EVER. Maybe if you just shut your mouth, we would be on better terms. No moving past any of it with me. F cleveland and FU drose!
