March 23, 2018: Fantasy Retooling

posted in: Cubs | 2

It was one of the funnest days of the year… our fantasy baseball league draft.  It kind of snuck up on me this year, with lots of crap going on at work and at home.  I didn’t look at anything until I got a text Wednesday night, from somebody else in the league in the same boat.  Well, he’d actually be at his daughter’s softball practice, while our commish had his son’s pee wee league draft; at least I’d have a few hours to myself to select my team.

So I checked a couple things on Wednesday night, and carved out about an hour on Thursday in preparation.  The number one thing that I do is to print out the most up-to-date depth charts.  I need to know who’s starting you know?  Once I do that, I’ll go through and circle some guys that I like.  I will also cross out entire teams that I’m not interested in, like the Cardinals, Brewers, Nationals, and White Sox.  Yeah, I know you’re supposed to play with your head not your heart, but that’s not how I roll.  I need to cheer for these guys on my team…

Couple things I decided going in:  I was going to have to overpay for my top guys; there’s really no way around it.  You may be able to get lucky in the middle, and definitely at the end of the draft, but at the start of the auction, be ready to spend the bucks.  I wanted to snag two of the top starting pitchers available; pitching has been really important in our league lately, and I’ve really only had one top notch pitcher after draft night.. not this year.  I also decided that I needed to get one of the top catchers.  Our league is a two catcher league, and since I spend a total of $2 typically on these 2 guys, I’m looking for catching help most of the year; again, not this year.  Finally, I was hoping to get one top closer… same concept as the catcher.  Let the draft begin.

So I overpaid for my first 3 guys:  Chris Sale, Madbum, and Freeman… yeah, I know Madbum is out for a while.. bastard.  I had him last year when he went down on the motorcycle… this sucks!  I got my top catcher with Buster Posey; my $1 catcher is D’Arnaud.  And I did have enough bucks to invest in a top closer with Chapman.  So I checked off my predraft wants.
The chief ingredients of ReloraMax include Magnolia bark viagra online for sale extracts, Phellodendron Amurense, rice powder, and gelatin capsules. This is the reason why Neogra levitra online Oral Jelly comes at a much cheaper price as compared to other primary names, this is unquestionably favorable in hindsight.
From there, my roster looks like this:  Corey Seager, Addison Russell, Byron Buxton, Inciarte, Kiermaier, Deshields, Haniger, Happ, Russell Martin, Pujols, Tim Beckham, Almora, Mallex Smith, and Gleyber Torres on offense.  My other closer is Melancon with my starters being Lester, Gray, Richards, Sabathia, Zimmerman, Bundy, and Foltynewicz.

The only guy I got that I didn’t really want was Happ believe it or not; that may have been a good mistake.  So I scooped up Almora too, since it is the Cubs, and I’ll monitor their daily lineup more than any team.  I got Lester… I really wanted Quintana or Hendricks.  I ended up with Corey Seager because I got him cheap.  And I forgot about Starlin Castro later in the draft.  Other than that, pretty happy about my team… as long as more guys don’t get hurt.

Maybe the real problem is my team name:  Curse Busters.  Now that the Cubs have won, no need to keep rolling with that team name right?  Well, if I don’t win this year, that will happen.  Can’t wait for baseball to begin.

Change your team name to Curse Busted. Corey Seager at $23 but so was J.D. Martinez at $27. I guess each team got some sort of steal, but injuries make or break a season and the team that stays healthy wins, most of the time.

The draft is always a fun night, even when it is not in person. You plan to overpay for some guys but make it up by getting a few steals later in the draft. All Cubs players were overpaid for, I think, except KB, who I got for $46. Thank you very much! Would have liked to get a few more Cubs, but the bidding was pretty crazy for them so I stayed out of it. Not sure how well I like my pitching staff, but as long as guys stay healthy, I am confident in my draft even though I did not do any research. Waiting for Braves stud Acuna to come up mid-April to help the cause…hoping he is a beast. K Zone ready to win it all, just like our Cubbies!
