Who doesn’t have Loyola fever?  Yes, the bandwagon is getting really full, and Loyola is headed to the Final Four in San Antonio after knocking off Kansas State.  Who would have thunk it?

I did pick them to win first round, but had Tennessee beating them on their way to the Final Four.  If Tennessee did win that game, it may have very well happened, and my bracket wouldn’t be in the trash can;  nah, it’d still be in the trash can.  I guess I should have went with my heart in choosing the brackets, and picked Loyola to win it all.  They’re two wins from doing just that.

When’s the last time us in Chicago had a cheering interest in the tourney?  You’d have to go back 13 years to 2005, when the Fighting Illini lead by the 3 headed monster of Dee Brown, Deron Williams, and Luther Head went to the title game.  I remember it well… I was in South Beach at the Clevelander watching the game.  I was still gambling at the time, and had some money on Illinois to win of course.  At halftime, they were getting their ass kicked, so only one thing to do; pound the hell out of them on the 2nd half line.  I had to call this bet in… I remember reading my credit card number to them, talking over the noise in the bar, trying to get the bet in.  I did, and it cashed… so the Illini coming up short wasn’t a total loss.  Of course the win over Arizona to get to the Final Four was one of the most memorable.  And wouldn’t you know… the coach that year would be the coach Loyola would be squaring off against for their chance to make it to the Final Four.

Before that, it has to be the Flying Illini; one of my favorite all time teams.  Before that, I remember as a kid rooting for DePaul led by Dallas Comegys, and then later by Rod Strickland and Kevin Edwards.  So what’s that?  4 teams that come to mind… pretty much in my whole lifetime.  Yes, DePaul did have those other runs when I was like 2-3 years old, but no recollection of that besides the Aguirre jersey that hangs in my closet.  Now, it’s Loyola’s turn.

I’m not out here living or dying with this team, but hey… they’re from Chicago, so I’m all about it.  I’m definitely pulling for them to do it all.  I love Sister Jean too.  The things she said in the few interviews that I heard should be listened to by other coaches and players; talk about a gracious winner thus far… always giving credit to the other team.  I did see something funny… what did Sister Jean give up for Lent?  Losing… haha.

Yes, will Loyola be able to win it all?  Michigan is the next test; it will probably be their toughest… that is until, if they do win, the championship game where they may face Duke, Nova, Kansas, or Texas Tech.  Yeah, that side of the bracket looks a bit more normal.

I know it’s Easter weekend and all, but… I may have to reserve time on the calendar to watch Loyola.  It’s fun to see, and they’re are a great team to watch play.  They play unselfishly, and they play good solid defense.  They’re an easy team to get behind, and with Chicago rarely having a horse in the race at this time of year, I have both feet on that train.  Ramble On Loyola!  Bring it home.

Happy for Loyola, and I will happily jump on the bandwagon. They are a team from Illinois and everyone should take notice. That’s the beauty of the NCAA, anything is possible, maybe the NBA should take notice. The NBA is all about the mighty dollar, but the NCAA is making a ton of money too, so maybe they are on to something.

Loyola Ramblers in the Final Four!?! NO way! I had them winning their first 2 games, but even those 2 picks were not done confidently. Yet, here they sit, 2 wins away from winning it all. How can you not be on the bandwagon at this point? With Sister Jean and the type of team Loyola is, not to mention how they won a few games in dramatic fashion already. The Ramblers play unselfish, team basketball led by their great defense. It seems like each game someone else is stepping up and hitting the big shot when needed. Their biggest test comes vs Michigan. Hopefully, they can advance where they would play their hardest game all season vs either Kansas or Villanova. My picks, Loyola vs nova for it all. RAMBLE ON!!!
