March 27, 2018: Baseball Preview

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 1

I’ve started to see everyone’s picks for the wild card, division, league, and championship series, better known as the World Series.  So I figured I might as well throw my hat in the ring, and give my picks in my 2018 baseball preview.

Let’s start in the AL Central, where the pick is easy; actually, there are a couple picks that seem like no brainers, but that’s why they play the games.  It’s the Indians for the division.

Heading out to the AL West, another seemingly easy pick exists.  It will be the defending World Series champions the Houston Astros winning the west.  I’m really going out on a limb so far…

The AL East is the first kind of toss up.  It’s one team that will win the division and most likely the other with the wild card.  So I’ll go Red Sox division and Yankees wild card  That leaves one wild card position left…

It could be practically anybody right… Well, OK, not the Rays, Royals, or A’s, not the Jays, Tigers, or Mariners… or maybe Seattle?  That leaves the Orioles, Twins, Sox, Angels, and Rangers.  Could the Sox be a year early on their rebuilding plan?  We’ve seen it happen before with the Cubs in 2015…  I don’t think so.  What about the Angels with Trout and their new import?  I’m going to go with the Twins as my 2nd wild card.

The playoffs on the AL side will play out like this.  Yankees over the Twins in the wild card game.  Indians over the Yankees, and Astros over the Red Sox in the divisional series.  The Indians will knock out the Astros to represent the AL in the World Series.

Over to the NL.. Nationals in the East, Dodgers in the West, and of course, the Cubs in the central.  Wild card teams will be the Giants and the Brewers.  Giants over the Brewers in the wild card game.  Cubs over the Giants, and Nationals over the Dodgers in the divisional round.  Cubs over the Nationals in the NLCS to get back to the World Series in a rematch with the Tribe.

Sorry I couldn’t mix it up any more… going with a lot of chalk with my picks… that’s definitely not like me.  So that leaves us with the Cubs vs Indians for all the marbles.  Honestly, I wouldn’t like this rematch; to play the Indians again… they’d be out for big time revenge.  I always like that angle… but not when it’s against me.  I’d much rather play the Astros in the Series…  But, I definitely won’t be picky, as long as we make it.  And yes, I do think that we’ll make it.

With Opening Day around the corner, baseball is finally back.  Now that we’ve taken a look around the league, let’s zone in on the two local teams… and make some more predictions.  I hope they’re better than my football picks…

MLB is here again so now my picks for each division…

AL east=yanks, just too much fire power
AL central=injuns, been there & done that
    AL west=asstros, welcome back
    Wild cards=redsux & angels

From there, I got the angels beating the redsux and then the injuns to make it to alcs. Meanwhile, the yanks will take out the defending champ asstros. Yanks get past the angels to head to the World Series. Onto the NL…

    NL east=nats, pitching power
NL central=Cubs, young, deep and talented
NL west=lala, time to get over that hump?
    Wild card=braves & dbacks

From there, I got the braves upsetting the dbacks to face the Cubs. Cubs overpower them while lala takes out the nats to set up a 3rd straight nlcs vs the Cubs. Cubs prevail in 7 to face the yanks in the World Series.

In another classic 7 game series, the Cubs come out on top to win their 2nd title in 3 years…starting the even year run that will bring 2 more titles in 2020 and 2022. GO CUBS GO!!!
