Mama said there’d be days like this…  The Wild got their 1st win last night at home, and pulled within 2-1 in the series.  It was a lackluster effort by the Hawks, who didn’t seem interested in putting their foot to the throat (sorry Hammer) of the Wild.  Will they be interested in Game 4?  I hope so.  If they’re not, they will have let the Wild back in this series… a series that shouldn’t even be a series.

19 shots?!?  That’s sometimes 1 period for the Blackhawks.  I know this is the playoffs, and this is the Wild, a great defensive team, playing at home, but still.  Should we expect 19 shots a period?  No.  Should we expect more than 19 shots in the entire game?  Most definitely.  We all know who the most skilled team on the ice is, and when they pair that with the hustle, grit, and WANT TO, they’re almost unbeatable.  We were missing something last night.  We didn’t even test Bryzgalov.  He is weak.  We’re not going to see another goalie this weak the rest of the playoffs, with Quick on the horizon, and possibly Rask in the finals (although they’re in a dogfight right now).  Don’t let this goalie get any confidence.  Don’t let this team get any confidence.  Let’s not mess around.

Maybe I’m not giving the Wild enough credit, with their star studded lineup and awesome coach.  Yeah, OK.  They do deserve some credit.  They’ve played a few good periods so far in this series, and it was enough to grab 1 out of 3 so far.  They do play good defensive in front of their goaltender.  The goals they have scored have been pretty.  Stoner (gotta love that name) has been playing well.  Is this enough to beat the Hawks?  They’ll need a full effort from every one of their top performers, Parise, Koivu, Heatley, Pominville.  Would that be enough to beat the Hawks?  Let’s throw in Bryzgalov standing on his head the rest of the way out.  Is that enough?  I’m trying to make a case for the Wild actually winning this series, and I’m having a hard time; unless, of course, the Hawks trot out Friday with the same enthusiasm.

In the 2nd Chicago event of the evening, the Sox beat the Cubs again.  The Cubs have mustered a grand total of 2 runs in the first 2 games (kind of like the 19 shot the Hawks took).  That’s not going to get it done.  It’s time to start bringing the boys up Theo.  Paging Mr. Baez, paging Mr. Baez.  Sure, it took Gordon Beckham to have a career night, but 1 run per game is not going to win many games.  The sick thing is that our pitching is doing well.  Why can’t we ever just put it all together?  We looked great in the St. Louis series, and now we’re looking like crap.  This is what we’ve been used to the past couple years, and I’m sure it will continue the rest of this year.  It’s frustrating, especially losing to the other team in the city who is really not that good either.

So that leaves it up to you Hawks.  I’m glad there’s that extra day off before Game 4.  Maybe they can step away for a second, and do one of those team building activities that Coach Q likes to setup for the boys.  And then, come back to practice, and think about this series.  Do we really want to play 6 or 7 games against this team?  I don’t think so.  Let’s come out with that effort we usually see, and split the 2 games in Minnesota.  Then, come back home where we’re 5-0 so far in the playoffs, and make that 6-0, and get ready to play some West Coast hockey.  I know what Mama said, and I’m OK with it… 1 day, 1 game.  Let’s look at this as a speed bump, and get back to doing what we do… being the best team in hockey.
