May 9, 2014: Back to the Future

This is what was supposed to happen.  Finally, the Cubs take one from the Sox to avoid the sweep.  I was sick of Sox fans coming up to me at work all day reminding me what happened the night before.  When everybody knows you’re a Cub fan, and you wear your Cub gear to work, you become an easy target.  The Cubs, the loveable losers, are an easy target themselves.  Not winning a championship in forever will do that to you.  But for just one night, we’re reminded of what is supposed to be, as we took a brief glimpse into the Cubs bright future.

Anthony Rizzo & Starlin Castro are the present and future for this team.  We need these guys to be big if we expect to win anytime soon.  They were big tonight; both of them hit 2-run bombs.  Rizzo has had a nice year.  The best part about his season to date, is his ability to hit lefties.  This was a problem for Anthony, and he seems to finally be getting it… at least for these first 5 weeks of 2014.  Starlin can’t be any worse than last year, right?  I honestly do think Sveum hurt him; trying to turn him into somebody he is not.  He will never be that guy to work the count, and show discipline at the plate.  He is a free swinger, and although that is not the Theo-Jed model, you need guys like this in the lineup too.  He still does boneheaded things on the field, but his bat looks like it’s back in 2014.  So that’s 2 guys… have to have more than that to have a bright future.

Well, someone else who I really like, is Mike Olt.  We got him as part of the Matt Garza trade, one by the Rangers owner’s admission, was a good one for the Cubs.  He plays 3B, which is supposed to be the future home of Kris Bryant.  I would like to see Olt play every day.  Maybe we see some more Grand Slams like he hit today; that was a bomb!  Maybe we can put Olt or Bryant in one of those corner outfield positions.  Another guy who I would like to see play more is Junior Lake.  We need to see what this guy really is.  Maybe we already know this, but instead of running journeyman after journeyman out there in the outfield, let’s play someone with a future.  Let’s play the young guys Ricky (or should I say Theo).
Power can be damaging viagra free delivery icks.org too but people purchase Bathmate Hydro pumps in UK because they offer higher safety standards. In the other big event of the night, DA Bears drafted Kyle Fuller, cornerback from Virginia Tech.  I wasn’t set on anyone who they would take; I just wanted defense, and we got one.  With the offense looking good (maybe another WR?), I hope to see some more defensive picks the rest of the way out.  This defense has gotten younger;  let’s stockpile on that side of the ball, while Trestman, Cutler and boys, put up some major points.  I’m looking forward to seeing this new defense, while expecting to see a top-rated offense.  Good things ahead this season.

So bright futures ahead for our teams.  That Cubs light not as easy to see as the Bears, but it’s there… flickering.  With the Bulls still having their championship window open, and the Blackhawks looking for that dynasty level, there are good things ahead for us here in the Windy City.  Heck, I’m feeling so good tonight, I’ll say even the White Sox future is bright.  Wait a second… just kidding!

Cubs winning is always a good thing, especially to quiet all the sox chatter. We will have our time to shine…one day! I think the Bears need to go safety, dtackle in either order in rounds 2 & 3. Looking forward to an exciting Bears season, round 2 for Trestman. As for the Blackhawks, game 4 is tonight as we look to put a strangle hold on the series. The boys will be ready tonight and hopefully we jump on them early. GO HAWKS!!!

That W always makes me a happier man the next day. Let’s load up on the D picks the next couple rounds. Definitely expecting a better effort from the Hawks tonight. Leddy back after a healthy scratch last game; let’s see him light the lamp!

Cubs will always be a dog ass franchise, too in love with “wait til next year” , “lovable losers”, and “billy goat curses” to start embracing the idea of winning. Burn that dump of a field down, build a new one that you can’t still smell Harry Carey’s last piss in, and forget the last 100 years of awful. Go Sox 🙂

Sox take 3 for 4 and send the cubs back to the bottom of their division. I love it. Fred z’s comment was hilarious. Laughing out loud at work while my coworkers stare at me like i belong in the nut house. Like the site Jeff. Keep up the good reads.
