November 12, 2017: Gut Shot

posted in: Bears | 1

It’s taken a while for me to get here… to write about the Bears loss on this Sunday.  To be more excited about a Bears game than I have in a long time, and to come out and play like that, was like a big time gut shot.  We flopped.  I guess we just weren’t ready yet.

Weren’t ready yet?  Maybe we’re not ready to win the “big” game yet, but shouldn’t we have been ready to play the Packers this week?  We did just come off the bye week.  This is a divisional opponent.  This is the Packers.  They are playing a QB who is starting his 3rd game.  Did the absence of Trevathan and Long impact us that much?

It just felt like we were outcoached.  It was another game that was right there for the taking, and we let it drop to the floor.  What were we doing the past 2 weeks?  There was nothing more important than winning this game.  Yes, the development of Trubisky is very important, no doubt, and by the way, I think he’s doing OK.  But for THIS week, winning THIS game, was the most important.  Is it really a lack of talent?

We know we’re short on the WR front, but other than that glaring weakness, where else can we be considered overmatched?  The past couple years we could make a list; that list, whatever else you want to add on to it, is a lot shorter nowadays.  We have more pieces.  We don’t have them all, but we’re closer than we have been in a while…

I wasn’t totally against the idea of keeping Fox around.  To have some sort of continuity… as long as guys are still responding to him, wouldn’t be such a horrible idea.  I really liked John Fox at one point.  His tenure here with the Bears has made me like him a lot less.  It hasn’t been all his fault… these past few years, but now, this year, I think you can point to him more than ever.

Yes, the challenge… whoever he was listening to, he should have known better.  What was the big deal anyways?  We get the ball at the 2 yard line instead of a Benny Cunningham TD, which he argued so much for?  We couldn’t punch it in with 4 shots from the 2 yard line?  It was a stupid challenge to begin with, before it turned into a game changer.

What about Dowell Loggans?  Do you think every fan, every player, and every team knows the Bears are going to run on 1st down?  The one time they did play action, I could have caught that pass and ran for 20 yards.  I’m not saying we should get away from the run; we should NOT, that is our strength, supposedly.  What I am asking for is a little creativity with the play calling.  Not trick plays, just mix it up for God’s sake; run when everybody thinks we should be passing, and pass when everybody thinks we should be running.  Not that complicated buddy.

Disappointing, not season ending, but maybe coaching staff ending.  I wouldn’t have minded if they fired Fox right after this game; my how my feelings swing.  I needed somebody to blame for this BS of a game.  But, we have to keep it moving… onto next week vs the Lions.

Gut shot for sure. What a big disappointment for the most exciting game in recent Bears history! I mean, the Bears had 2 weeks to prepare for a weak cheese team without discount double check man, and that is what they showed? Ouch. I agree, this has to fall on the coaching staff. Yes, the Bears are not the most talented offensively, but how bad can the game plan be? Don’t even want to get into the bonehead challenge, fox and staff just seem to be out of answers or don’t know the right ones. I am all for fox and dowell getting the ax. Not exactly sure why cunningham is playing as much as he does. The Bears drafted Cohen and once again, he gets 1 carry and 1 reception…the most explosive guy on the offensive side of the ball, and that is how he is utilized? What a joke! Obvioulsy, Jordan Howard should be a big part of the offense each week. I think the Bears used the playaction rollout once, and it was good for 20+ yards…why go back to it? What happened to getting MTru on the move out of the pocket. He was getting pressured most of the game. Bellamy continues to drop passes left and right. Where was wheaton? What a busted pick up! The whole game was just a big disappointment. I thought this was the Bears chance to show us something. Maybe they are not ready, just not there yet. I know where my blame goes, and that is on fox and dowell. How long is the leash they are on? Now the Bears get the lions…more of the same in store? Not sure what will be different if the Bears couldn’t figure things out on a 2 week bye. The excitement is gone. Only a W will bring it back. BEAR DOWN!!!
