November 17, 2017: Week 11 Lions at Bears

posted in: Bears | 1

A week later, that excitement which overflowed before the Packers game is gone.  It’s back to the waiting game; that game we have played for the past “fill in the blank” number of years.  Do you count all those years since the Super Bowl win?  Do you count those years since the last Super Bowl appearance?  How about the last playoff appearance?  However you do it, it’s been too long, and although we may be closer to the end of that game than the beginning, there will certainly be more of it.

We just weren’t ready yet.  What are we missing?  Wide receivers, sure, we can start there.  Will the recent acquisition of Inman fill in one of those slots?  Certainly not a number one; best case number two?  So we need a number one, and don’t tell me that’s Meredith or White.  We need a couple pieces on the defense too.  But what about the coaching?

They are the ones that I’m directing most of my anger towards nowadays.  After last week’s post bye week performance, fire them all is what I say (ok, except Fangio).  But do we want him as the head coach?  Will he stay otherwise?  We need somebody with some offensive brains.  We need somebody to guide Trubisky, to help him become that franchise guy.  I think we may have actually hit with that pick I was so pissed about.   Now let’s not F it up.  But what about now?  What about the rest of this year?

I’ve never been a proponent of losing games to get a draft pick, although that may be the most sure fire way to get a stud WR, although remember the last WR we took in the first round?  The fact that there are many pieces in place makes it important to start building that winning culture now; that culture that would have had a huge boost if we took care of business last week.  We should still focus on finishing with the best record possible this year.  I still think we can win a good number… But not enough to save Fox right?

What about the Lions?  Favored by 3 points coming into Soldier Field in a game in which they should win; just like we should have won last week.  That’s why they play the games they say, and if there is anybody who’s good at losing games they should win it’s the Lions.  In our defense, we’re not really used to that favorite role.

Final Score Prediction:  Bears 24 Lions 20

Ace in the Hole:  Mitch Trubisky 300 yds, 2 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD

First time I’m picking Trubisky here.  Like I said, I really like what I’m seeing there.  He almost had his first 300 yard game last week; I think he gets there this week, and more importantly, gets us the W.  Really wanted to see him get that first win in his first game against the Pack; I’m thinking he’ll get a few more chances… Bear Down!

The excitement left along with the Bears chances at a playoff berth. That was a game they had to have and laid a big ass egg. Onto another nfc north opponent, the lions. The Bears have several missing pieces, but none that I think will cause this playoff delay to go any further past this year. Inman might be a stretch at #2, more like a #3 or #4, but an upgrade from bellamy, who drops more balls than he catches, and wheaton, who has been a bust. Meredith would be a welcome target to have. White should be gone. The Bears need weapons on the outside…period. As far as the coaching staff, fox and dowell should be gone. Vic can stay…not sure if head coach is a possibility. MTru looks solid but needs more weapons. A rookie qb with no weapons on the outside is not a good combination, but I like what I see. I had the Bears winning this game 27-24…late TD to Cohen for the W. Unfortunately, we know what the actual result was. More to come I’m sure…
