November 18, 2015: Green Bay Dirt Bags

posted in: Bears | 2

November 3, 1985 was the date for the Week 9 matchup between the Bears and Packers in Lambeau Field.  The Bears, sitting at 8-0, were 9 point favorites against the 3-5 Packers that they just pounded on national TV a couple weeks back.  There was no way the Packers could beat the Bears on this day, but they tried their little hearts out.

They started by sending a bag of manure to the Bears locker room before the start of the game.  I actually like that stuff… no, not horse manure, but the hate between opponents.  It’s become a nice guy league, pretty much across all major sports.  Guys helping each other up, yucking it up on the court, laughing with each other on the field…  What’s up with that?  When you cross those lines, there should be a serious dislike for your opponent, since you are both after the same thing:  a win.  When the game is over, you can go back to your fellow man loving, but not during the game.  These rivalries that we hype up across the board really don’t have the “umph” like they used to.  In 1985, that hate was very real.

These teams despised each other, led by the coaches Forrest Gregg and Da Coach.  It was very evident on the field that day.  It was very evident that day who had the talent, and who was scrapping, doing everything they could to hang.  These Packers weren’t here to play football; these Green Bay Dirt Bags were here to fight.

This is the first time that the hate ran through my blood for this team in green and gold, and it has never left.  You can read the entire Hate File on them here (http://www.thelocalsportstalk.com/may-24-2014-the-hate-files-ii/) I remember watching this game…  I remember Mark Lee taking Walter Payton over the bench about 10 yards out of bounds.   That’s all it took.  Ken Stills clobbered Matt Suhey 5 seconds after the whistle too; they were always good for that.  They crossed the line.  You play hard, you scrap, you fight, I’m ok… but you start doing illegal stuff trying to hurt people, that’s when I got a problem.  That’s what they did this day… it didn’t work.
I looked up viagra samples valsonindia.com the word firefighter in two dictionaries just to see how they defined the word. Is there any difference between viagra in india online and viagra? Let’s tackle this topic on two fronts. In May 1785 a balloon crashed down in Tullamore, levitra price here are the findings Ireland and seriously damaged the village. Sometimes, the method causes damage to the pharmacy viagra prices tissues.
I also remember watching the Fridge catch his first TD pass.  I can see it now… I was upstairs by my grandmother’s, when the Bears lined up near the goal line.  The Fridge, lined up in the backfield, went in motion… a decoy for sure.  Then he ran an out pattern in the end zone, and McMahon found him for 6.  Yes!

But the man again today for the Bears was Sweetness.  28 rushes for 192 yards and a game winning TD.  Just another day in the office…  His 4th straight 100 yard performance.  He came through in a big way against the dirty Pack on this day… helping keep the undefeated streak alive.  16-10 was the final and 9-0 was the record.

Another storied game in the longest rivalry in NFL history was in the books.  This was the 2nd Packer game that I remember, and that’s all it took for me to hate them.  The hate grew in the following years, when they did some more illegal stuff, and then flourished as Green Bay found some QBs and passed us in the standings on a regular basis.  Now, I relish in the 3 game losing streak they are currently on.  Yes, I too cringed when I saw Ditka in a Packers sweater, but it’s a commercial people… relax.  And oh yeah, that’s the single reason the Packers are on a losing streak now…haha.  The next chapter will be written on Thanksgiving Day.  How about we send them a rotten turkey in their locker room stuffed with dog crap?  Just a little pay back 30 years later.  How about then getting on that same field and kicking the crap out of them?  It’s a long time coming…  it feels like 30 years…

Yeah, but helping each other up will never compare to the Magic/Isaih kiss at center court before a Laker/Piston game. Now that was ‘Showtime’ folks…….
As for the rest, Ditka (or maybe it was Butkus) said it best. When we cross the sidelines, that man is my enemy. I’d rather step on him than help him up (or something like that)…..
