November 19, 2017: Owning Them

posted in: Blackhawks | 1

I was very happy to get to watch most of the Blackhawks game Saturday night at the Penguins.  Remembering the season opener, and the beat down we put on them, I figured that the Penguins would be out for blood.  They tried, but we still walked away with a hard fought victory.

Games like this remind us of the greatness of the Blackhawks.  No, it wasn’t an offensive outburst, but we did just enough to win.  It wasn’t an easy win.  This wasn’t an easy opponent.  We were in their rink.  It was only a regular season game, but.. it was a big W.

That’s all that’s left this decade I think… for these 2 teams to meet in the Stanley Cup Finals.  To settle the debate about the team of the decade.  With 3 Cups each, it should be settled on the biggest stage.  This regular season stuff… I’m tired of owning them… 8 straight now.  Let’s settle this when it really counts.  Long way to go to get there though…

So we’ll enjoy this 2 points.  Crawford… man, he really wanted this one.  He got taken out… so glad he came back.  He shut the door on the Penguins, making a number of beautiful saves, especially the 2 against Kessel.  The one he snatched with his glove, and then the other one, sliding from left to right to stonewall him.  It was beautiful.  This guy has been carrying us this year.

They showed the goalie comparison before the game, and Crawford had better numbers across the board than Murray, except for the win loss record.  That’s not a reflection on Corey.  I was just glad we scored 2 goals on this night.

There were other great plays.  Anisimov had a nice sequence on defense, where he back checked the guy, and then picked up a pass about knee high in mid air.  It’s amazing the hand eye coordination of these guys.  Yeah, he scored a goal as well, doing the dirty work again.  I love him in front of the net; it would be nice to have more guys like that.  Those are the goals you need when it’s not going your way.  You need those type of goals when you’re facing a goalie who is standing on his head.  I’ll never forget Byfuglien’s performance in 2010.  Anisimov topped off a nice week after his hat trick earlier against the Rangers.

The first goal was of the five hole variety by Gustav Forsling.  They were just breaking down his defense on the pre-game show.  He played a nice all around game too.  Toews had a chance shortly after that.  Thought for sure he was going five hole too… it was there, but he didn’t.  Then was it Kane who had the other one coming off the wing?

I enjoyed the game, especially cause the Hawks came out on top.  That’s 2 in a row, and back in the playoff picture; you weren’t really worried about that were you?  Next game is Wednesday night at Tampa Bay… another Eastern Conference team to beat up on.  Go Hawks!

Had a long comment that must not have made it through due to a few choice words, but in summary, the Bhawks were lucky to get away with the W, thanks again to Crow! Even after Crow gets a head shot and knocked down and the Bhawks do nothing…no cross-check, no knocking malkin off his feet, no face wash, no penalty…nothing. Pretty damn sad when nobody responds after the best player on the Bhawks this year gets drilled. I know the Bhawks are not a physical team, but they need to respond to situations like this. It is a bad precedent to set when nothing gets done. GO HAWKS!!!
