November 29, 2014: 31 and Done

So we’re ending a feature of this blog with this here article.  The fantasy pick section is done.  It’s been done for a while now, but now it’s official.  It’s official because my fantasy season is officially over.  Let’s review.

It’s appropriate that I ended this run going 0-5… for the 3rd straight week!!!  That’s right, 0-15 my last 15 fantasy picks.  21-48 is my final record.  For the record, I want to defend myself.

The whole preface of these picks are picking a lower projected point player to defeat a higher projected point player.  So, in essence, I picked 69 underdogs this year, and hit on a little less than a third of them.  That would be a pretty good batting average, but not so good in this forum.  It’s not as bad as it looks based on what I was trying to do every week, and that’s NOT take the chalk, but it’s still pretty bad.  I know I could have done better.

So the pick feature is over after today.  No more picks.  I may come up with another feature to take its place… I’m just not quite sure what it will be.  When next football season rolls around, I will definitely have a new feature in place, and that will be picking against the spread… another one of my strengths, or should I say weaknesses.  That being said, I think I will give the ATS feature a test run in the NFL playoffs THIS year.  Look for that coming soon…

I’m putting the fantasy section to rest.  This is my 31st post about fantasy football.  It was a little off the target topic of Chicago sports, but it’s another passion of mine.  It’s one of my competitive outlets nowadays, and as far as that goes this year, I tanked.  This will be the first time in I believe 6 years that I will NOT make my fantasy football playoffs.  Throw the Bears season on top of my failed fantasy picks and my underachieving fantasy team, and it’s the 2014 football trifecta of dog crap.

If anyone out there has any ideas about a feature they would like to see throughout basketball and hockey season, feel free to comment.  I play fantasy basketball too, but it’s still too early to do another picks section.  I used to bet heavily on the NBA, so I could do an against the spread section, although I’m not following the rest of the NBA that closely right now.  As far as hockey goes, I skipped that fantasy league… I can only do so much.  I’ve never bet hockey… wait, yes I have, and it was ugly.  I tried to ride the hot streak that was the Chicago Blackhawks, and picked the wrong time to ride them.  I remember a particular home game against the Coyotes that went into a shootout that I lost 100s of bucks on…  no hockey picks.

So as I ponder this subject, I look for any ideas.  As always, this blog, this website is open for ideas, and open for contributors.  Who wants to run a feature on this website for a salary of $0/post?  How attractive is that offer?  I’ll get to all replies eventually, since I’ll have 100s to sift through.

Good luck to you if you’re still alive in your fantasy leagues, and you’re welcome in advance for not providing any more horrific picks for you, although I may be depriving you of some comedic relief.

I almost missed posting today.  A day full of things other than Chicago sports… go figure, lead to a day with no availability until now.  I made it.  The streak is still alive.  Tomorrow I will update the Circus Trip for the UC boys.
