November 7, 2015: Gamblers Anonymous

posted in: Bears | 1

I wonder how a session would go. Do I have that sickness?  No, but isn’t that the first step…admitting you have a problem. No need to get that deep here, we’re just back to making some fun ATS picks in the good old NFL.

I would like to dabble in Fan Duel or DraftKings, although the odds to win there have to be miniscule. You know why they’re advertising the heck out of it right?  They’re making money hand over fist. The more players the better. Yes, to get lucky and win a week would be awesome. The guys running those sites don’t need luck. They win every week…big time. So I’ll stick to this innocent dabbling.

To recap my documented picks thus far:

8-3: 2015 playoffs

4-4:  2015 regular season

Now that baseball is over, I can zone in again here. I got a few.

Bears +4 at San Diego

Play of the week for me.  I’d even play this moneyline. Chargers are banged up big time. Bears are 2 blown games from being a 4-3 team instead of a 2-5 team.  Like what the coaches are doing here, the talent just isn’t there.  I’d hope they play a little mad here after a tough loss last week. Or they could roll over and get blown out. I don’t see it. Take the points if you’re worried.

Carolina +4 vs Green Bay

OK, so I understand that Green Bay is coming off their first loss, and they are the mighty Packers, but hold on just a second professor.  Carolina is undefeated.  Are you doubting their record?  They’re not as good as it indicates.  Yes, I think that would be the popular opinion, as would be a bounce back win for the Pack.  But Carolina is at home, and they are getting 4 points… is this a sucker play, or will the popular opinion be proven wrong again?  I like going against the public, so I’m all overall the Panthers in this spot.

Indianapolis +3 vs Denver

Why do I keep believing the Colts will play better than they have been?  I thought they’d beat Carolina last week, but that didn’t happen.  I guess Luck is really not 100%.  So now, off another tough loss, and a big Denver win by the way, Indianapolis welcomes Peyton back to town.  I don’t think he’ll throw for 1 TD.  I think this is a low scoring game.  I think it comes down to the last drive of the game, so I’m taking the points with another home dog.

TB +2 vs NYG

Going with a common theme this week…. underdogs all the way, and 3 of the 4 HOME underdogs.  This one may be the biggest sucker bet of the week, and since I’m not actually laying down real money here, it’s easy for me to call it out.  The Giants and Eli and just coming off a week they scored a ton of points.  Now they face a Tampa Bay team that is about as exciting as their coach… sorry Lovie.  They did just beat Atlanta, but most will be chalking that up as a fluke.  I’m chalking the Giants and Eli’s performance last week up to a fluke, and taking Lovie’s crew to keep it close; I’d even take the ML here.

So back to some ATS plays.  I do miss gambling on football.  I just don’t have enough time to do it, nor the permission or funds to.  Ha!  So for now, I’ll get my fix through this blog feature.  Is it time for a Vegas trip yet?
