October 15, 2017: Mitch’s First

posted in: Bears | 1

I’ll admit.  I wasn’t pinned to the TV today for the Bears game.  I had a lot of stuff to do, and I had to carve out at least three hours in the evening.  Still, the game was on in the background.  I sat and watched bits and pieces.  I’m happy that the Bears helped get Mitch’s first win.

Mitch did make some nice throws.  The TD pass to Sims.  The pass to Wright that setup the game winning field.  He had some nice scrambles.  At the end of the day, it’s a win.  I still think wins and losses are a great way to define a QBs success.

Maybe short term that can be deceiving, but over a good sample size, and obviously we don’t have that for Mitch yet, wins define the great QBs.  This was definitely a grinder.

I thought it was in the bag.  The defense actually got some turnovers and scored.  I walked away and they were up by 10.  Then all of a sudden we’re headed to OT?  They tried to give it away.  Special teams almost sunk us, nullifying an outstanding performance by the defense.  The defense held it down in OT long enough for the offense to score and win.  The above mentioned pass by Mitch was preceded by a huge run by Howard; love how he burst down the sideline. We got a good one there.

Love the RB pass earlier in the game too.  Cohen threw a strike to Miller for the game’s first TD.  That brought back memories of Payton.  Maybe next time Mitch can be on the receiving end of that a Cohen pass.

But the defense was the key today.  It’s amazing how getting a few turnovers increases our chances of winning.  Last in TO ratio last year.  I believe we were last up until this week this year.  When you can’t force turnovers, the margin for error is razor thin.  By getting the turnovers, we were able to nullify our mistakes, and eventually grind out a victory.  Nicely done!

Then there was the other news of the day, that was breaking the entire second half of the Bears game.  Seriously, they scrolled it non stop.  Rodgers could be out for the year; excuse me while I wipe my tears.  What this does is throw the NFC North up for grabs. Why can’t the Bears be a part of that toss up?  The hardest part of the schedule already in the books.  Mitch only going to get better.  Defense starts forcing turnovers regularly.  I can see it.

Don’t forget about the run either.  Howard or Cohen running behind that OL is where we can do damage.  Handoff, handoff, play action roll out; I like that script.

And of course a W at the end of the day.  Stack them up and this season may not be lost.  Only going up from here boys.  Bear Down!

The Bears Win! MTru with his first NFL victory! I did not see any of this game, only the highlights after as well as a play by play via text in OT. Was checking in on my phone and could not believe the game ended up going to OT. A kick return and punt return? Really??? Come on Bears. Trying to find new ways to lose every week huh? Oh well, they were able to overcome them by getting some turnovers, finally. A nice pick 6 to the house from Amos! Cohen tossing a sWeet TD. MTru with a great on the run TD toss to Sims. Howard continuing to run wild. The Bears D playing great. Watch out now! Plus, in even better news, the poor fudgepacks lost their franchise qb. Wonder how that is going to feel…HAHAHA. Forgive me for not caring or feeling sorry. Misery loves company. Hopefully, the Bears are moving out of their misery period…trade places with gb? The nfc north is up for grabs now. If the Bears can get another b2b W this week vs cam and his panthers, then we can get our hopes even higher. In the meantime, enjoy this win. Enjoy MTru leading the troops despite not having a great game. Time to rise from the ashes Bears! BEAR DOWN!!!
