De-siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-re.  De-siiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-re.  As I was driving home from work yesterday before Game 4 of the NLCS, I turned on the radio and heard the famous U2 song, Desire.  Not a big U2 fan by any means, but that is an awesome song.  It’s on my ipod… I used to like listening to it when I was running out in LA, as I headed uphill, or was close to finishing my run.  It gave me that motivation to push on through.  I thought it was the perfect song to precede this must win game for the Cubs.  I opened my windows and turned it up.

Isn’t that a big part of it?  Desire.  The will to win.  Mind over matter.  Who wants it more.  At this level, at this point in the season, all teams have the talent.  You can argue who has the greater talent, for sure, but you can’t tell me that the Dodgers have that much more talent than the Cubs.  In fact, I can argue the opposite; well, of course I can.  Except maybe when it comes to the bullpen and maybe Kershaw, the Cubs are just as good or better talent-wise across the board than these guys.  So how is it that we’re down 3-0 in the series?  That’s why they play the games they say.

Is it just that I’m so biased that I think the Cubs are better than everybody and should win it all again?  Maybe.  I’ve watched all year.  I know the streaks we’ve had to endure where our bats weren’t doing anything.  I know all too well about all the walks coming out of the bullpen.  I remember the 1st inning virus that infected the entire starting staff in the 1st half.  This season, the first post championship season in my lifetime, has definitely been a grind… for the players.  Yes, we’ve felt it too… It hasn’t been the glorious waltz through the season like in 2016 followed by the dramatic postseason performance.  But for me, coming off that first title, I tried not to let it get to me so much… not this year…. not just after we won it all.

I didn’t want to be greedy.  But then it was like… we’ve waited so long for just one, why can’t we win another right away?  Why can’t we win a few more?  I talked about that window yesterday.  Well, the 2017 pane is still open after the Cubs pulled out a nail biting 3-2 win in Game 4 at Wrigley.

They willed that win.  Jake with a gutsy, gutsy performance.  Nothing but kudos for him.  I sure wish we can work something out to keep him in a Cubs uni next year.  I sure hope we see him pitch again this year.  Then Wade Davis… man, that was pure will too, no?  He was a starter at one time in his career, so throwing about 3-4 innings worth of pitches during his 6 out save maybe isn’t the end of the world.  I’m just glad we got that double play.

Seeing Turner on deck… glad to see him stay in that circle.  Glad to see Jansen stay in the pen.  And glad to see Javy back!  Yes, Willson hit a moon shot too; where the heck has he been?  But Javy, with not 1, but 2 bombs, after starting this playoff year 0-20.  Where there is a will, there is a way!

And that brings us to tonight, Game 5.  The term Must Win is used accurately in both last night’s and tonight’s game.  Will the Cubbies be able to will another win?  It’s amazing what 1 win does to our confidence.  I’m feeling good… kind of like Javy when asked about Kershaw tonight.  “Good luck to him”.  Go Cubs!!!

Desire. A strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen. Sounds about right for the Cubs. Jake pitched a hell of a game and WD71 got the last 6 outs to get the Cubs on the board in the nlcs. Jake threw 110 pitchers while WD71 threw 48…whatever it takes. The offense woke up just enough to muster 3 runs on 3 solo shots. Willson launched one while Baez hit two of his own. It was enough to get the W but nowhere near what this Cubs offense is capable of. They get another shot tonight vs kershaw. Time to pound him and the lala bullpen silly dont you think? Still waiting for that breakout game…maybe it will come, maybe it wont. Either way, grind out a W however you have to Cubbies. Get this series back to the west coast for the weekend. Q gets the ball…this is what the Cubs traded for. 5-0 in last 5 elimination games are the Cubs…anybody want 6-0? Hell yes I do! Come on Cubbies, time to take out their ace and get to lala with both of ours ready! Bleeding blue, Cubbie true…GO CUBS GO!!!
