October 23, 2017: Happy Returns

posted in: Bears | 1

The Monsters of the Midway are back!  OK, at least for the past 2 games, the defense has been really good.  For the record, I did think the defense was going to be pretty good this year; for the record, I did predict the Bears would go 4-4 into their bye week.  I’m just saying… for our Bears this year, we may be looking at some happy returns.

We had a couple of very happy and very long TD returns in Sunday’s defensively dominating win over the Panthers.  It was a celebration for my Mom’s birthday on Sunday at my parent’s house.  We all watched most of the game together; that was cool.  I just missed the first TD as it happened, although I was able to catch the replay.  We’ve seen this coming for a while now… with Eddie Jackson that is.  Since the preseason, he seemed to always be around the ball… always making plays on the ball.  Now, the whole world knows…

He picked up the fumble that nobody else could and flew down the sidelines for the score.  If you thought that was impressive, then you must not have seen the 2nd one.

It happens all the time; the ball gets batted up into the air and falls harmlessly to the ground.  We never seem to have a guy there to catch that batted bird.  When Prince stepped in on the WR slant route to break it up, the ball popped up into the air.  It looked like it was going to fall to the ground before the missile that is Eddie Jackson appeared and secured it and turned up the field.  I started yelling “House It”… take it to the house for you that don’t know, or score a TD with it in the simplest of terms.  He did!  It wasn’t exactly Robert Traylor rumbling down the sidelines either; this guy can fly.  After making a quick little move on Cam (nice attempt by the way), he was gone… and the crowd went wild.  When was the last time it felt this fun watching the Bears?

Yes, then there’s all the talk about how the offense didn’t do crap; they’ll definitely have to do more… I think they will.  But all that was needed to secure the W this Sunday, was the don’t screw it up version of the offense.  That is Dowell Loggans specialty.

But back to the defense; there were some sacks too.  We suspected that the front 7 would be something, but the secondary has been a very nice surprise.  Fuller looks like the first round pick we drafted him to be.  Amos has been playing really good.  Jackson is a star in the making.  Could we be only a guy or two away on this defense?

The Bears did the smart thing with Jackson; they took a chance on a very talented guy who got hurt.  This was smart because we took this chance later in the draft.  The kid went to Alabama; right off the bat that should tell you something.  It should give you another reason to take a chance on a kid, even though he’d been recently injured.  Now, this kid is looking like Mike Brown out there.  Ahhh, to have a guy who can play the safety position on defense…

It was a very satisfying win.  We’re not at that 500 mark yet, but we have that chance next week.  I know the Saints aren’t the all powerful Saints any more, but a win in New Orleans before the bye week, could get the excitement really going.  Playoffs?  Just remember, for the record, who said it first.  Bear Down baby!!!

A great win for the Bears vs cam and carolina…never really been a fan of his. The Bears D has remembered how to force turnovers the last 2 games and look at what a difference maker it can be. Not only are they forcing turnovers, but they are taking them the distance for points…the ultimate turnover. Make the other team pay immediately and get back on the field and do it again. Eddie Jackson looks to be the safety of the future for sure…great later round draft pick used on 1st round talent. Yes, MTru, the running attack, and the offense were pretty much staying out of the way…not doing much. Some games are like that. Others will not be. I hope the OC opens up the playbook for MTru vs the saints. If the Bears D keeps playing the way it has, that will mean good things for the Bears. If MTru and the offense can play well on top of that, watch out. The nfc north is up for grabs right now. Beat the saints and get back to .500 going into the bye. How sWeet would that be? The Bears are in position to do that right now…no letdowns, please! BEAR DOWN!!!
