October 30, 2017: Winding Down

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 2

Am I the only one NOT watching this World Series?  I’ve tuned in for an inning here and there, but I’m just not that interested in watching the games.  I am interested in the outcome; of course I can’t wait to see the Dodgers lose.  If that happens, I will be satisfied.  Yet, I don’t feel the need or want to watch.  I see I’m missing a doozy.

And that’s OK.  I’ve seen MY doozy; that was last year.  With the great games in this year’s series being talked about as “greatest ever”, I think back to Game 7 of last year; the greatest game in my lifetime.  Nothing will ever top that, sorry.  I’m guess since I’ve seen the best, there is no reason to keep watching?  Nah, that ain’t it.

If that was it, then I wouldn’t have watched the NFL since Super Bowl XX.  If that was it, I wouldn’t have watched the NBA since the last game MJ wore a Bulls uniform.  I continue to watch… my teams; I guess that’s what it boils down to.  I’m more interested in watching my teams play than anything else.  Maybe I’m winding down…

I’m just tired of baseball this second.  Not like sick and tired, just tired… tired of watching it this second.  Well, catching up on Stranger Things has got my attention elsewhere too…  Maybe that’s it.  Maybe, just like I think is needed for all the Cubs players and coaches, I need to decompress for a bit.  Step away from the game before coming back full force in the spring.

Speaking of coaches, another one bites the dust.  Davey Martinez will be the coach of the Washington Nationals.  I’m very happy for him.  That is the biggest compliment to a team and their staff to see one of their own get hired for their own managerial position.  He definitely deserves his shot.  Good luck to him, except when we play each other.  And by the way, take a good look at Bryce, because this will be his last year in a Washington uni.

Yes, the pitching, hitting, 3rd base, and now bench coach are gone; can’t remember what Hinske was but he has left too.  That’ll be 5 new faces on the staff for next year.  We already know some of the replacements; who will replace Martinez?

Some people are saying David Ross; I guess I wouldn’t have a problem with that.  I’m still holding out hope that Girardi will take that cake job and succeed Maddon when he’s ready to hang it up.  A guy can dream can’t he.  Imagine that brainpower in the dugout?  That would be sweet; still can’t believe he’s not coming back with the Yankees.

One other thing about the Series… what’s up with all these runs?  It just all seems like a bit too much.  Juiced balls?  Maybe, since I’m in my conspiracy mode this morning.  It’s like… they’re artificially playing this series up… making… forcing it to be “great”, as long as you don’t like pitcher’s duels.  OK, I’m done.

Done with baseball for the year.  Yeah, right; who am I kidding?  I won’t be able to stay away.  Just because I’m not watching, doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention.  Again, I’m just mentally winding down a bit… no need to get emotionally involved in another series at this point that does not involve my own team.  But if the Astros are up late in one of the next 2 games, I will tune in to hopefully see the Dodgers lose.  Yeah, oh well…  Go Cubs!

Congrats to the new champs, the houston astros! I was happy to see them win, although I did not watch much of the series, either. Just hard to get emotionally involved with all the swings of the game when my team is not playing. It seemed like a great series, though. I called 7 games. There have been home runs galore. Tough luck for the dodgers and their die-hard fans…a 3rd straight nlcs vs the Cubs next year brewing? Could be. As for the Cubs, the coaching staff blow up continues. Congrats to Davey bulldog! Some new faces will be helping the Cubs this offseason into next year. Hope the chemistry is good…shouldn’t be a problem with Joe at the helm. Baseball is officially done for the year. I’m sure we will still talk about it, but no more watching it. Ready to focus in on the Bears, Bhawks, and even the Bulls. Until spring training, enjoy the vacation Cubbies!
