September 3, 2014: Gambling Season

posted in: Bears | 1

One of the best parts of football season is gambling.  Yes, betting on each game is fun, but is reserved for Vegas, online betting, or bookies.  However, there are many other forms of “gambling” that take place each and every year.

Something we’ve talked about many times here, fantasy football, is a form of gambling.  Although in a lot of leagues, the entrance fee is only a small amount usually, and the whole purpose of the league is to have fun, there are leagues where the stakes are higher.  There are big money leagues, with very serious rules, which are highly competitive.  The new thing is the weekly Fan Duel, where an individual can supposedly make a ton of money.  Picking players weekly and competiting against 1000s of other players can lead to a big payout with a very small upfront fee (that is my understanding).  Going down this route, makes fantasy football more like gambling.  Even the picking of players, hoping for good return on investment becomes like the stock market, which some people consider a form of gambling as well.  It all makes it more fun at the end of the day.

Fantasy is the biggest form of “gambling” in football today, although you have many traditional pools to participate in.  There are squares, where you get 2 numbers and try to match the score at the end of each quarter resulting in different payouts.  This is pretty much pure luck.  You have elimination pools or loser pools, where you must pick a winner or loser every week, can’t use the same team twice, and win a nice amount for being the last person standing.  That sounds easy enough, but it usually isn’t.  You have confidence pools, where you rank your level of confidence 1-16 in a full NFL week on each game.  You can either pick winners straight up or against the spread.  I usually sucked at picking the straight up winners.  I always bet too much with my heart.  Like card games, there are hundreds of different variations of gambling on each and every NFL game each and every week.  Heck, the amount of money wagered on the Super Bowl each year is ridiculous, as the different variations are at an all time high.  This is why the Super Bowl is the biggest fixed game in the world… for those of you conspiracy theorists.
Many middle-aged women complain of knees and legs pain and cialis buy are seeking for treatment to get rid of it and preserve ourselves within the extended list of ailments. People who want to select allopathic method, can buy Zenegra online, a pill purchase cheap levitra that has FDA approved ingredients. These unstable molecules, called free radicals, are biochemical toxins and are considered a Discover More discount cialis common factor in chronic disease. These also interfere with the working of Tadalafil of 20mg tadalafil.
Gambling makes it more fun.  There was a point where I would bet on every game, and when I wasn’t, I wouldn’t bother watching the games.  Today, it’s all about the Bears game… the one game I watch every week regardless of having action on it or not.  Yes, I keep a close eye on my fantasy performers, which is why Red Zone is such a popular thing.  I don’t have it, and won’t pay for it, but when I was exposed to it, it was pretty cool.  I enjoyed having the NFL package, with each and every game.  This was the best… nothing to do on Sunday all day but watch football.  It seems like so long ago.  Again, now it boils down to the Bears game each and every week, and as long as I’m able to find time for that, I’m happy.  Of course, the primetime games are always on the menu too..

The gambling on each game has been taken to a new level… with in-game betting, where you can just about bet on every single play.  It’s crazy, and addicting at the same time.  This is why I stay away now.  That, and the fact that I can’t take my emotions out of a sports wager.  Fantasy is the extent of my “gambling” today, and I love it.  It makes almost every NFL game mean something.  It’s my little form of competition each week.  With only a small amount of money “invested” which leads to weeks of entertainment, you can’t beat it.  Of course, it’s always good to win.  Winning is everything right?  Not always, but it sure is close.  Nothing wrong with putting a little money in your pocket for winning your league, or any other victorious wager throughout the NFL season.  Let the games begin!

Gambling is so addictive and very tempting. Fantasy football eases the temptation each year, but with gambling becoming so easy to do nowadays, it is hard to stay away. A moose friend of mine will be betting on a website this year. He has a $2000 limit each week, payable either way, up or down. I prefer to pay or collect only if up or down a certain amount, but each guy does things differently. If down, you are always trying to chase. The biggest keys to gambling, other than having a bankroll, are discipline and patience. Both are easier to say and type than actually do. Once gambling, you can bet on just about anything and everything, and you will be tempted to. You might start betting on games and sports you have no idea about, but you are trying to make quick money or chase down what you lost. Either way, best of luck! A lot of times, you just need to get lucky being on the right side in a game as calls or non-calls, late td’s, and other crazy nonsense will affect you winning or losing big time…enter the conspiracy theorists. Sometimes you just have to be lucky! Goodluck betting moose and anyone else taking the risk. I will try to stay away or just dabble here or there…Bears -7 anyone?
