September 4, 2014: Hello NFL

It’s finally here…  we’ve been waiting for 7 months.  The NFL season will kickoff tonight with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.  Can you feel the excitement?

I’m not quite ready to change gears 100%, because I love the baseball stretch run, but I’m ready.  I will be tuning in to tonight’s game, and will be rooting for the Seahawks for the only time this year.  I don’t like the Seahawks at all, but they get the “root for whoever is playing the Packers” support.  I would love to see the Seattle defense take out a few Packers; I wouldn’t shed any tears for an injury to a Packer…

I don’t have any fantasy players going in this first tilt, but I am playing against the Seattle D.  OK, 49-42 win for Seattle will be good, with Rodgers & Cobb getting injured.  Now, THAT would be the way to start off the NFL season.

So let’s make some predictions for the NFL season.  Let’s start with the NFC:

Division Winners:  Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins

Wild Card:  Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Bucs

I have to pick some surprises, and the NFC South will have some this year.  So in the playoff matchup of Atlanta vs Chicago, I’m rolling Bears, and Washington vs TB, I’m taking the Skins.  So, GB vs Was, I go GB, and Seattle vs Bears, I go Bears in a big upset.  Yeah, that’s right, it sets up an NFC championship game of Green Bay vs Chicago, this time in Green Bay.  I got…. who you think?

Division WInners:  New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts

WIld Card:  Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders

So I throw in some more shockers in the AFC Wild Card.  Why not?  There are some every year that you would never think.  The Raiders (this is for you AL) join the absence of the Saints in the playoffs as the 2 biggest surprises.  I got Houston beating Cincy, and the Colts beating the Raiders in the Wild Card round.  Houston beats New England in a shocker, while the Colts beat the Broncos!!!  Vegas cleans up in the AFC divisional round.  Indy beats Houston in the AFC Championship game, which sets up another rematch in the Super Bowl.

Yeah, so I’m a homer… did you think anything else?  Bears Colts rematch has the Bears as the Super Bowl champ.  I predicted an 11-5 record for the Bears in a past blog, and will stick to that prediciton.  I think they get into the playoffs and get hot.  I think the defense figures it out enough to not be horrible, which is enough for this offensive juggernaut.  Cutler stays healthy, and is in the MVP talks.  WAKE UP!!!  Please don’t wake me, let me finish.  Bears beat the Colts 24-23 on a Robbie Gould GW 48 yd FG.  Can you dig it?

I can.  It’s not that farfetched is it?  I mean, the Bears are a popular sleeper pick this year, which kind of bothers me, but I’ll ride it anyways since they’re my team.  This would be the dream season to remember, especially ending in 2 rematches where the Bears can avenge previous losses in the same game from years past.  I can’t really imagine any way this year ends better than the above.  It’s fun throwing out predictions with nothing on the line…

Either way it goes, I’ll be sweating out 16 weeks worth of Bears games again.  I’ll be closely monitoring my fantasy team as I try to get in the playoffs again, and actually win it all this time.  A Bears Super Bowl title… A fantasy football title… Yeah, I may be dreaming, but it’s fun.  Welcome back NFL!
