The Bulls are back… in the play-in game… haha. Yes, they did it again! They did it again on Wednesday night at the UC against the Heat. They have been on quite the roll. Now only if the season was a bit longer, we’d be able to get back to 500… Hey, like I said, I’m going to be happy; can’t beat my teams winning. I know the big grain of salt that comes with this winning, the potential of empty long term ramifications, etc… But right now? Watching the Bulls is fun again, other than seeing Vooch still in a Bulls uniform. But for the most part? Yeah! Coby, Giddey, and the rook… it’s fun. Not only has it been fun, it’s been winning basketball. What does that all mean at the end of the day?
Well, for starters, barring a surprise over this final weekend of the regular season, the Bulls will host the Miami Heat in the 9-10 play in game. The winner of that game will play the loser of the Magic-Hawks game to determine who will get the lucky #8 seed in the East. This year that lucky team gets to play the Cleveland Cavaliers; honestly, I’d rather play Boston. The Cavs beat the Bulls (like a drum) all year long; 4-0. The margins of victory were 6 (not bad), 18 (uh…), 22 (OK, make it stop), and 22 again. Quick calculation tells me the average margin of victory in those 4 matchups… 14.5 points. Yet, I’d be happy if we got another shot at them. This would mean we made the REAL playoffs, and not just some play in BS. I’ll take that, this year.
The Bulls have gained by subtraction essentially. DD out; Lavine out. Buzelis drafted, and Coby White freed to play his ass off without having to worry about DeMar and Zach getting theirs. Giddey has grown into his own too. How did you feel about that Giddey-Caruso trade at the time? I loved Caruso, but, without looking up an old blog, I think I was fine with it. Give Caruso a shot with a title contending team; give us a young guy with some potential. If OKC wins it all this year, and Giddey is resigned and continues to shine, win-win right? That’s how all trades should work.
After their 3rd loss to the Cavs this year on March 4th, the Bulls have went 13-5… wow!!! I didn’t even realize that. Our 5 losses… Houston (#2 seed in the West), Phoenix (torpedoing the final month), Dallas (West play in), OKC (#1 seed in the West), and Cleveland again (#1 seed in the East). Can the Bulls really make a push? I still say no. IF somehow, we were able to get into the 7-8 play in game, and win, and matchup with Boston, well… I’d say we’d have a better chance. Boston shoots a lot of threes; Boston misses a lot of threes… maybe??? However, if we stay where we’re at, and IF we win both play-in games, I don’t think the series vs the Cavs will end well for us. Gaining true playoff experience would be the best thing that comes out of it.
Does this Bulls team have a future, one in which they finish in the top 6 in the East, for starters? Maybe. I certainly don’t think our roster is there, yet, but pieces for sure… and with a HOF coach, the sky is the limit! Haha… Not going to get too much into that right now; just enjoying the ride. 13-5?!?! Go Bulls!!!
