Looked in the sock drawer the other day; there they were, two mismatched socks. Do I wait to find the match before I wear them? Is there a match? They were the last two white socks left before laundry is done; not too many options. Screw it; I’m wearing them. And another blog title was born…
Part of my process is to never have the same blog title, ever. With over 4,000 in the bank, sometimes it gets tricky; my mind works the same way, thinks the same way about certain things over time. There are many times when I plug a title in, and lo and behold, I’ve used it before. Scratch that, back to the drawing board. I try to get catchy with my titles, sometimes using similar ones back to back to back. As the days go by, certain things jump out at me, and I say, that would be a cool title. Now how mismatched socks fits into anything Chicago sports related is beyond me, but maybe it’s life related, and since on these pages, Chicago sports is life, then, well, I think it will work.
I may have never found my match. As my socks get holes in them, I throw them away… only the one with a hole; I’m not throwing away a good sock. A single sock is born, reborn if you may. And there it sits, in my drawer, waiting for another sock of the same type to get a hole in it; now, we have a new match. Sometimes it takes time. Sometimes a scenario comes along where I can’t wait for that match, and we’re going with the odd couple. Two single socks, deserted by their holey partners, now, matched up on my left and right foot. How many times will people see my feet anyways? Well, with yesterday being Holy Thursday, and part of the tradition being the washing of feet, there was a greater possibility that day than others. When they called up folks to get their feet washed, I thought… did people sign up for this? Can I just walk up there, with my mismatched socks? I should know this since I’m part of the “in the know” crowd at church. Because I’m a lector, I get communication about stuff; with my son in a catholic school/church, we get emails about stuff. I probably did get something, just didn’t read it; that happens.
I could have went the whole Red Sox White Sox theme with this title, you know, red vs white… Surprisingly, the White Sox beat the Red Sox in a series this past weekend; this weekend they’ll head to Boston to complete the season series in April. Who wants to talk about the White Sox anyways? You have to be the most die hard of die hard fans to name that whole roster, I swear; who the hell are these guys? Not my concern. Since I did breakdown and buy antennas to watch the Bulls and Blackhawks play their 2 non-playoff qualifying seasons, I can watch the Sox live up to their part of the bargain. I love baseball, so I can’t say I’ll never tune in. In fact, I know I will, at some point. I may even make it out to a game, breaking the bank to buy those $2 tickets to see a team that nobody knows, a team whose owners don’t give a shit about, play in an empty ballpark that serves awesome food. Sounds like a nice summer evening to me…
