OK, OK… since I’m out here, let’s talk a little bit about the “Bay Teams”.
On our cable car ride East down California, we ended up not that far from the Bay Bridge. From there, we’re not that far from where the San Francisco Giants play. We had to go by the stadium. My wife and I had been there before, for a rainy preseason game between the Giants and As; she was sick but still went… what a trooper. The Giants were actually in-town while we were there; it was an option for sure, but… it wasn’t the Cubs, so… we ended up passing. Still, I wanted to take my son by the park, took some snaps, including one in front of the Willie Mays statue. It’s a very nice stadium; I remember that much from when we went. Would love to come back out and see the Cubs play here one day; would have been nice to be in the house for that 2016 NLDS Game 4… the Cubs comeback and subsequent winning of the series that night in Frisco. Of course, not all good memories of the SF Giants, like in 1989, when Will Clark dueled with Mark Grace, ending in a SF winner in the NLCS. For some reason, that one didn’t hurt as much as the other Cubs playoff failures… I liked Will Clark. In general, I don’t mind the Giants, period. I used to love Matt Cain, he was a fantasy beast. Looking at the Giants Wall of Fame outside the stadium, saw many guys that played for the Cubs too, like Rod Beck and Chris Speier. Nothing against them honestly, although I was rooting against them in the Bay Bridge Series, when the Bash Brothers and the As brought it home. Speaking of the As… they are no longer part of the teams in the bay… that’s sad. Raiders too… long gone!
Since we were here, we HAD to go to the Warriors stadium, only about a half mile away. Definitely not a Warriors fan, with all those titles they’ve been winning, the breaking of the Bulls regular season win record; don’t mean a thing without the ring btw… So we get there, and there’s a big picture of Curry on the board outside; we just missed it. My son wanted to wait until it came back up to snap a picture; we did… and then ran into the team store. I used to love Run TMC… Tim Hardaway (Chicago stand up), Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin (lefty!). But now, nothing against Curry, he’s cool, but… and Jimmy is now here, but… I’ll be rooting against them, no doubt. They played Game 3 against Houston the night we left. Kind of glad, because those tickets… wow, not cheap.
The other Bay Team is not in San Francisco. Technically still on the Bay in Santa Clara about 40 miles south of where we were. If I had realized that earlier, we may have swung by… but, I didn’t. Plus, we did pass by San Jose, could have checked out the Shark Tank. Two out of four ain’t bad. I got nothing but love for the Sharks, remembering that 2010 series against the Hawks; beautiful! The Niners on the other hand, well… can’t say I hate them, although they did deliver some blows to the Bears when I was a kid. But Montana, Young… how can you hate them? OK, where were we?
