July 6, 2025: Bird Bashing

posted in: Cubs | 0

We can’t leave this 4th of July weekend in the rearview until we talk about the bird bashing that went on. Sure, we didn’t sweep them, but we did win the series. The Cubs did that by beating the Cardinals 11-0 on Sunday Night Baseball in front of the whole world to see; that makes me smile. You know, being a Chicago fan, we’re on the other end of those embarrassments a lot of times; I can think of a couple (OK more than a couple) Bears games where we got destroyed on national TV… those really suck. So, to turn those tables a bit, and do that to the Cardinals… well, frankly, we couldn’t have picked a better team to kick the shit out of.

This whole “greatest fans in baseball” thing really irks me. Did you see the attendance in St. Louis when the Cubs were down there a week or so ago? It was pathetic. Tell me again how the Cardinals have the best fans; I call BS. Speaking of that series, the Cardinals had us on the ropes, taking the first two, before the Cubs stormed back beating them a combined 11-0 in the final 2 games to split the series. There’s that number again… 11… which btw, was the same number of runs scored by the Cubs in the first game at Wrigley on the 4th, when we beat the Cardinals 11-3; you may have heard about the 8 home runs hit by the Cubs in that one, a franchise record; that was beautiful. Yeah, we let the middle game slip, but came back with a vengeance on Sunday night, showing to the world, how the Cubs and Cardinals are on two totally different tiers this year; the Cubs are on another level, and the Cardinals, well, they will do their best to just stick around, because that’s what they do; it’s annoying.

Beating the Cardinals ranks up there in the greatest Chicago sports events, on a year to year basis that is. Nothing compares to winning titles, but as far as the normal day to day business goes, kicking the red birds’ asses… that’s about as good as it gets. Sure, I love to beat the Sox, and the Brewers, but there’s something extra special about beating the team from St. Loo. I hate the Cardinals, if you haven’t heard. I think the only thing that tops it, is when the Bears beat the Packers; we’ve beat the Cardinals a whole lot more than the Bears beat the Packers. Hopefully, that will change soon… Caleb is undefeated in Lambeau…

The Cubs beating the Cardinals put a nice cherry on the weekend. Now, back to business… back to work, back to the summer routines that we’ve been following since my son has gotten out of school. The calendar has already turned to July, and now, the 4th is behind us… summer is flying by, like it typically does. Still can’t figure out a way to stop time yet, so let’s keep it moving.
