I can’t remember a minor league system getting talked about so much…. ever. When was the last time you knew everything that was going on with your baseball team’s farm system? The fact is, in the Cubs case, it is much more interesting than the major league club.
It’s really a two sided story. The wheels have fallen off of the major league team. Losers of 12 of their last 15 games, it’s getting hard to watch. There are only a few good things to talk about, and I’ve talked about those guys about a dozen times. Rizzo continues to mash, while Castro is in a holding pattern. We do have AA sticking at the major league level, and Hendricks who threw a good game (against the worst offense in baseball…yes, there is an offense worse than the Cubs). The paid attendance is still OK, but if you watch the games, the actual attendance is bad. I can’t believe there aren’t more people in the stands for the battle of the 2 worst offenses. OK, it was a little cool last night, but until we start incorporating some good news, I expect to see more of the same.
I hope it doesn’t ruin/chase away another manager. I’m OK with Ricky Renteria. I like him better than Sveum. He doesn’t make all the right decisions, but he’s been pretty good. He is upbeat and positive, which are 2 necessary qualities these days. It has to be rough to lose, lose, lose… to come to the ballpark everyday, and try to keep your team on the up & up. With a good number of guys on this roster probably NOT going to be here next year, it makes the job even harder. It’s bad right now, but it will be getting better… soon. Now we turn to the good side of the story.

The latest ranking of the minor league systems by ESPN reveals the Cubs at #1. The Cubs are #1 in something, isn’t that nice. It’s only one man’s ranking, but I’m sure they are top 5 in EVERY ranking. While I am tired of talking about it, and would much rather see these guys in Wrigley, it does feel like we’re on the brink of something, and that is exciting. Alcantara is playing in the majors, Bryant has moved up to AAA, we acquired Russell and McKinney, our #1 draft pick Schwarber has been promoted, Baez has turned his year around, and now, Soler has moved up to AAA, and Almora up to AA. It’s like these guys are caged animals. It’s like Theo has these guys under wraps, but they’re now bursting at the seams. It seems like it’s finally time. It seems like the NEW Cubs are ready to make their debut.
I can only hope that most of these guys are on the ML roster next year. There may be a few that we see this fall, and a few that take another year or so, but next year’s lineup is going to look a lot different… I can’t wait any longer. You asked us for patience Theo, and you got it, but don’t push it. Three years and almost 300 losses are a lot for any fan to endure, although maybe you knew THIS fan base could take it. I mean, if 99.9% of the fan base hasn’t seen a World Series in their lifetime, I’m sure they can take 3 more years of this stuff. Well, it’s been a mixed reaction, but I think I can speak for ALL Cub fans, we’re ready. It’s time to flip the script.
Throw us a bone this year. Bring up another guy. Give us a sneak peek at 2015. We need something to keep us going. We need something to get us through the end of this year. Wait… Bears training camp has begun!!!
Tastes Great
Holy cow! Pass me another bud! Alcantara spelled backwards is aratnacla. And bryant spelled backwards is…oh, who cares! This Cubs farm system reminds me of a 6pack of warm beer. You acquire the talent but cant drink it cause it is not ready. So you put em in the fridge to get cold, aka the farm system. You wait and wait, trying to be patient because there is nothing like an icy cold one. So we wait for these guys to be MLB ready. And just like the beer, we think they might be ready and really want one, but not just yet…a little more time! Finally, icy cold…take one out and crack it open…ahhh! Cubs nation is waiting for Theo to give these guys the green light to come up to the Cubs so we can remain hopeful and excited that next year is almost here! BEER ME!
