Continuing on my Bulls rant… To bring you up to speed, those I’d love to see not be a part of the Bulls going forward: Reinsdorf, AK, Billy Donovan, and Vooch. Next up is…
Patrick Williams. If we’re talking about mistakes the front office has made, this has to be up there. OK, so they took a shot at drafting the kid high in the first round; I had never heard of him. Yet, I’m always willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I think from the time he was drafted until it was time for his contract to come up, we had seen enough to understand that he is a bust, a complete bust, unless of course, your definition of bust is different than mine. If you’re OK with a guy who has a good game once every 10 games or so, then PWill is your guy; I guess that’s what our front office thought. Considering the right now and looking ahead, resigning Patrick Williams was a brutal decision. Yeah, not sure anybody is going to come take him off our hands any time soon… 18M per year for the next 3 years still… And for that new contract, all Patrick Williams did in this play-in game was… nothing, absolutely nothing. Zero points from this scrub. Moving on… I wish we could move on from him.
I didn’t expect to talk about Jalen Smith today, simply for the fact that he never plays. In fact, my son and I were wondering why he didn’t play more; we both wanted to see him get on the court. Unfortunately for us, we’ll never be able to get back those 4 minutes he took the court on Wednesday night; yes, Jalen is catching strays today too. Here’s a quick summary of his 4 minutes: got outworked for a rebound, held the ball for 8 seconds of a possession, and didn’t catch a pass Giddey gave him heading to the basket. Now I understand why Billy wasn’t playing him. Get him off the court!!!
Of course, when your best player has more turnovers than FGs made, well… tough night for Coby White, but no, I’m not lining him up for the firing squad. In fact, to try to take a breath and look ahead, Coby is part of the vision, along with a rich Giddey, and the young buck Matas. They gave us plenty of exciting moments down the stretch this season; I look forward to more of that. Of course, that won’t be enough… We need a superstar; no offense to the #2s on our roster Coby and Giddey; who knows where Matas will end up on the superstar level, but in the meantime, we need a superstar; sounds like the subject of a future blog. I have some thoughts…
For now, we say goodbye to the 2024-2025 Bulls. Getting rid of Lavine was one of the highlights other than the young core showing us a little something something down the stretch. Yeah, watched a bit of the “west coast Bulls” with DD and Zach in Sactown; they had the same fate as us on this 2nd evening of play-in games. I’m calming down now… no more Fire Billy chants for a minute; we’ll stop dogging guys out, for now. I’ll put my thinking cap on, and think about moves that will make this Bulls team better, as if the current front office will do anything close to the right thing. We can dream though; we can hope, keeping that hope alive for a 7th trophy one day… just not today, not today. Go Bulls!
