August 10, 2020: Just Another Monday

It starts on Sunday night. As the day winds down, it sets in; Monday is almost here. For most of us, Monday means the return to work. Sure, you may love what you do; I don’t hate it. There are days when I love it, but not Monday. Just the mere fact that I have to return to work after two days off, sucks. Call it what you like, case of the Mondays maybe, but that first day of the week back to work is normally a tough day.

I woke up at about 3am; I never wake up in the middle of the night. OK, never say never, but rarely; there could be a helicopter that lands outside our house, and I probably wouldn’t budge. When I’m sleeping, I’m sleeping; not this night. When I got up, I grabbed my phone, flipped through Twitter; Chicago was getting looted again. WTF.

I wonder what’s really behind it… whatever it is, it is completely unacceptable. There is no way around it. The people responsible for this need to be held accountable; everyone needs to be held accountable for the wrong things that they do. We’re not going to completely stop “wrongs”… I wish we could. What can and should be done, is when these “wrongs” happen, that person needs to be punished accordingly, you know punishment meets the crime; no excuses. We all have to own our actions; there is nobody to blame for them. We have control over OUR actions. I’m a subscriber of the “two wrongs don’t make a right” philosophy too. If you feel you’ve been wronged, natural reaction for some may be to deliver that wrong right back… an eye for an eye maybe? I’m not about that; no tit for tat. We all get wronged… some more than others… some worse than others. There have to be other ways to go about things instead of doing another “wrong” right back…

Fell back asleep finally, but the damage was done. Got through the work day; easier than I thought. Then the storm rolled in… There are times when Chicago is issued a tornado warning, yet there has never been one that touched down in my life. Sure, out west maybe… an hour or two south of the city yeah, but never in Chicago. As I was driving home, I thought it could happen; I was looking for those funnel clouds. The sky was pitch black… it was like night was rolling in at about 4pm… Trees were blowing everywhere, fallen trees, branches all over the place. Traffic slowed to a crawl; what the hell man. Thankfully, no damage to my particular property, but there was enough to go around in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. More clean up efforts…

OK is it over? No… then the shelving unit in our pantry collapsed; I had to do some emergency repair work at about 10pm, sweating like a beast since we had turned off the AC. Now it’s over… finally. This was anything but just another Monday. 2020 is anything but a normal year… and the worst thing… it’s not over yet. No hands baby… no hands…
