Back to the NFL… When we left off, we had 2 divisions to discuss, in regards to their win totals for the upcoming season. Let’s enjoy some southern hospitality… AFC South, you’re up next!
The favorite in the AFC South, again, is the Houston Texans. CJ Stroud looked human in his 2nd year, as the league adjusted to him, yet they still made the postseason, and for the 2nd straight year, they won a playoff game! But like last year against the Ravens, they ran into the better team in the 2nd round; this time it was KC. How does Houston get over the hump? Well, not necessarily worried about that for this conversation; I am looking at their 9.5 win total per Vegas, and… I think they can do that. The division isn’t necessarily the strongest, so that helps. I like the coach QB combination down there, which as you can see (Brady-Belicheck, Reid-Mahomes) goes a long way. They’re not those guys, but they can be something I think. Double digit wins again for the 3rd straight year!
The 2nd best team in the division IMO is the Jacksonville Jaguars; wtf is going on there? 3 years ago, in Doug Pederson’s first season, Trevor Lawrence lead an improbable comeback to beat the Chargers in the Wild Card playoffs, and… they put up a good fight against KC; the Jags were on their way, right? Wrong. 9 wins in 2023 wasn’t horrible, but after a 4 win season last year, Pederson was shown the door. Enter Liam Coen, the Bucs old OC, who still has Trevor Lawrence behind center, for better or for worse. Compared to the rest of the division, they’re not half bad; the rest of the NFL… well, I actually think they’ll be good enough to finish over their 7.5 win total, which means they’d double their wins from last season… happens all the time.
Sticking with the over theme, I’m looking at the Titans. The Titans?!?! Yeah, only need to get 6 Ws to surpass their 5.5 estimated win total this year; I think they can do it. I actually thought they’d be a sleeper team last year, well, that didn’t happen. Sometimes I’m a year off with those types of thoughts; timing has never been my strong suit. Not saying they’re going to “shock the world” or anything, but I think they’ll do enough to get at least 6 wins.
The last team is the Colts, which brings me to my one under for the division. Under 7.5 wins in Indy here we come! We still believing in Richardson at QB? I’m not. The Colts brought in an insurance policy too with… Daniel Jones… That’s kind of like the cheapest auto insurance you can purchase. I’m not buying him either. Sure, JT may still have some mileage in that body, but… the Colts surely have seen better days.
OK. That leaves us one division to review. The AFC West is up next.
