Speaking about the betting surcharge and the potential audible I’ll have to call on my investments, let’s get back to the NFL win totals for the upcoming season. We touched on the NFC East; time to come home to the North.
You know, the whole head vs heart thing, well… if I was to bet on Bears win totals every year, I would be betting the over; I almost always think they’re going to do better than expected; last year was no exception. And, and… with a 4-2 start, I thought I’d finally be right; that went downhill quickly. That’s in the rearview thankfully, and the Bears enter this season with a new head coach, more weapons on offense, including the offensive line, and aspirations to actually do well this year, and… I believe them; of course I do. Will this be the year I’m finally right? I would definitely take the over 8.5 win total for the Bears. 9-8 is certainly very possible, right? Right???
What about the defending division champs? The Detroit Lions have looked dominant the last 2 seasons, however, both of those seasons have ended in playoff losses; last year was a big time shocker. Since then, they’ve lost both their coordinators; that has to hurt no? I think of Jared Goff with no Ben Johnson… sure, they can still pound the hell out of the rock with Sonic and Knuckles behind that awesome offensive line, and surely the defense will be better than last year; all they have to do is take the field after missing so many games due to injuries last year. Still, I would lean towards the under 10.5 wins for their total. Road games at Baltimore, Cincy, KC, Washington, Philly, and the Rams, not to mention the 3 within the division, helped me make my decision.
How about those Vikings? Rookie QB will be replacing Sam Darnold, who will be heading up the Seahawks offense this year. Not sure what to make of the success of Darnold in Minny, but I do believe their coach is legit. Will this translate to immediate success for JJ in a tough division? I don’t think so. Under 8.5 wins for me.
And that brings us to the Packers. If I went under on the Lions, under on the Vikings, what do you think I’m going to do on potentially the most overrated team in the NFL? Yeah, you guessed it. Under on the 9.5 wins for the rotten cheese this year.
Head vs heart…. hmmm… Over the win total on my team and under the win total for every other team in the division. Not sure how you should listen to these predictions, at least not in the NFC North. Although I do think the win total for the Bears is reasonable, there is no way to put any stock into what I say about this subject based on every other year that has come and gone. My expectations for the Bears are very high; that’s why it hurts so much when they faceplant every year. I hope finally the Bears will live up to them, and at the very least, finish with an above 500 record this season. Bear Down!
