May 16, 2025: World Series Begins

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

I bet you didn’t know that the World Series begins today… for the Chicago White Sox that is. You see, in years where the chance of making the playoffs is slimmer than the Reinsdorf budget, this cross town series is everything. On the other side of town, the Cubs enter the weekend in first place. Game on!

It’s been a good run for the Sox as of late. They’ve actually won some games, which is good. I don’t care if the Sox win or lose, but for God’s sake, don’t be the worst team in MLB history. Luckily/thankfully for them, it looks like the Rockies will take that title from them, only one year after they claimed it. And now, they’ve got the Pope in their corner; that can’t be a bad thing. Now if only Pope Leo can convince Vatican City to buy the team, there may be a chance. Hey look, I get it; I’m a Bulls fan. The stranglehold the Reinsdorf’s have on 2 of our city’s sports teams is brutal. But, thankfully the new Sox jerseys look like Bulls jerseys, so… there’s that.

I’m sure there will be many Sox fans making the trek up north to Wrigley to watch their improved team play their most important games of the season, well, at least those with half a brain. Imagine thinking Wrigley Field is a dump? Can you imagine that? That may be the stupidest take of them all. That’s your rebuttal to the attendance jokes thrown your way? Wow. Now I know I’m biased, but there is no better place to watch a baseball game than Wrigley, and I don’t mind going to the Cell, or whatever it’s called nowadays. That’s because I love baseball, which many Sox fans do not; they just hate the Cubs and everything associated with them. Keep that hate in your heart.

When it’s all said and done, it should be a friendly rivalry; something to showcase two baseball teams… not many cities make that claim. Unfortunately, for more than a century, it’s been a shit show… on BOTH sides of town. Look, I can trash my team all I want too, ok? 6 World Series combined between over 200 years of playing baseball? Yeah, I guess we’re not all that different after all.

Look, I could go on forever here; this is in my wheelhouse. I’m about as Chicago as they get, although I do like ketchup on my hot dogs. I’ve known Sox fans my whole life; frankly, half the time, I know more about their team than they do, but not this year. Who the F are these guys? I know Chris Sale pitching for the Braves, Cease pitching for the Padres, and Crochet out in Boston. I remember Eloy, you know, the big trade that the Sox won… haha. Robert Jr will be playing for another team soon, as will Smith if he keeps this good pitching up. I wish the Sox had better ownership; makes me feel stupid bitching about the Cubs owners…

But hey, happy Spring/Summer Classic to all Sox fans; enjoy this part of the series in Wrigley. I imagine the games will be crazy, and hopefully memorable, as the Cubs punch the Sox in the face again this weekend.
