May 18, 2025: Beating Up On Little Brother

Was it ever really in question? Well, heading into the cross town series, or as they call it now, “rivalry weekend”… haha… the Cubs Sox games are usually tough to call. Over the years, many times, it’s been the worse team of the two that get their licks in; there’s no question who the worse team was coming into Wrigley this weekend. So… would the Sox play out of their minds and win a series, one that will be more important for their fans than any other this year? OK, maybe the 3 on the South Side will be more important… I guess they have some making up to do.

The Cubs kicked the shit out of them; it wasn’t close. 26-8 over the 3 game sweep. It was a head bashing, that left Sox fans trying to downplay the importance of these games; it’s OK… sometimes you just need to take the L. We know how badly you wanted to beat the Cubs; we know those Sox fans who hate the Cubs and everything related with them with every fiber of their being. Sorry; try again next time. The Cubs did what they needed to do, as they try to stay in 1st place in the division, and took care of an inferior opponent.

I did get to know Miguel Vargas; sounds like a kid I went to grammar school with. What, did he hit 3 home runs this weekend against us? He tried his best. The Sox top prospect Tim Elko went deep when Saturday’s game was close; they may have something there. But the Cubs top prospect, who is now one of our best players, who is now one of the best players in the MLB, was on full display. Yes, PCA as they call him, Pete Crowe-Armstrong, the guy we got in the Baez trade from the Mets, was absolutely in beast mode. How’s 8-14 in the series with a boatload of runs, RBIs, and exciting plays? You see that triple; that was one of my favorites. The nice catch against the ivy; yeah, looked nonchalant making that extremely difficult play. Of course the big 3 run HR to kick off the proceedings on Friday afternoon. Hey, I’ll be the first to admit; I wasn’t sure he was going to hit. I knew he had the glove, the speed, the arm… but could he consistently hit major league pitching. I think we have our answer. Dude has swag too, kind of like that guy we traded for him. The Cubs have appeared to hit jackpot with PCA; sign him to a multi-year deal right now. Lock him up!

Meanwhile, the Sox have ways to go. They are NOT the worst team in the majors, which is a step up from last year. They seem to have some pieces… moving Luis Robert for some more pieces may be smart. Not sure they have anyone else of value to move, but… I’m sure Reinsdorf and his cronies will find a way to jack that up too…. sucks. It sucks for all those Sox fans out there; I feel for them… I really do, well, except the ones that hate the Cubs. Haters going to hate; I know that hate-o-meter was going off the chains this weekend at Wrigley, watching the Cubs circle the bases, beating up on little brother. It’s OK… there’s ebbs and flows with this stuff; the Sox will be back on top, at some point, maybe later this decade? For now, keep the basement warm while the Cubs move on to more serious business, like making the playoffs. See you at the end of July. Go Cubs!
