I can’t recall this ever happening. I’ve been playing fantasy baseball for many, many years. After finishing the 7th week in my family league, I stand undefeated. Yep, 7-0! Boo ya!
I have to talk smack you know. My text to the entire league (all family) went like this: “Happy Monday and Happy Undefeated Day to all who celebrate. I’m all about equal opportunity, and have now dished out an L to everyone in the league. Round 2 begins today and features a 1v2 matchup. A fantasy legend vs a surprise upstart (my dad… haha). Don’t want to spoil the ending of how this week will go, but I think we all know. Haha… Good luck everybody! I wonder what my magic number to clinching the overall number one seed is…”
I’m enjoying the ride. Nothing wrong with a little crap talking; I miss that. I miss not working with as many people in the office, especially like this past week, the Cubs Sox games. Man we used to go at it, back and forth, all day long; it was great! Then, we’d all cut out early, and head to the bar to watch the Friday game; it was classic. It was fun. Nobody was taking anything personal; we were just talking trash. Maybe we have thicker skin or something… nowadays, people can’t take the trash talk; they want to right away get stupid with it. In all of our Cubs Sox shit talking, never did it ever cross the line. Sure, did both sides get annoyed and pissed, yeah, but we still clicked beers, cheering each round. That’s the way it should be.
Heck, even in other situations, the trash talk has been fun. Walking into the Bears playoff game with some Eagles fans… that was fun, the back and forth banter; never did either side think about starting a fight. How about our trip to Oakland to watch the Bears? Yeah, we had tons of fun, never worrying about our lives; we kept it cool. The Cubs Dodgers games, well… there was one that didn’t end too well, but… we made it; they can’t all be good endings… haha. The Cubs Sox games featured some shit talking; one time some broad got in my face. I looked at the guy she was with, like, you going to come get her? Haha… Cheering on your team, going back and forth against the opponent’s fans, that’s fun, at least for me.
This weekly text trash talk has been going on for 3 weeks now; hope it continues for a while longer, although after one day… ouch; my dad is kicking the ever living crap out of me; maybe the undefeated dream will be over. Can you imagine going undefeated? I’ve never thought about it, because it’s so far fetched. Sweeping through the first round of games in our 8 player league, well, it’s pretty cool. It’s showing everyone who the true fantasy legend is… haha… now if I can only turn this legend stuff into a payday…
