May 26, 2025: Memorial Day Premium

posted in: Cubs | 0

Memorial Day 2025 rolled around and the Cubs were in 1st place; that’s pretty cool. The Cubs made their way back home from their latest road trip to host the pathetic Colorado Rockies in an afternoon game in the cathedral. I had looked at tickets, but… I didn’t want to pay the “Memorial Day Premium”… I’m going to pay 3x as much for tickets on this day, vs any day the rest of the week. But, when no other plans materialized, and my wife pushed me in that direction… OK. I bit the bullet. My son and I were headed to our first Cubs game of the year.

Speaking about “paying the premium” for a second… on this Memorial Day… How many fellow Americans paid the ultimate premium fighting for this country? This is why we observe this day as an official holiday; honoring the memory of all the fallen. We can also honor the ones that made it back, and be thankful for that. Fighting for your country is something… as we get older, and learn more about our country, and the reasons we go to war… and to think regular folks died for those reasons… It’s not a clear cut deal IMO. When 9/11 hit, and we were under attack, it felt clearer… if there was one time I would have signed up for that, it was then… although there are underlying reasons there; there always are. Not going to go down that rabbit hole, and not going to interpret what we are fighting for when we “fight for our country”. Nah… it’s time to honor all those who did sign up for this; some didn’t, but did it anyways. Some went and never came back. Hoping each of them are celebrating this day up there, while we continue to enjoy our lives down here.

Yeah, life is good, you know? Yeah, shit is F’d up… the world is a horrible place… everything is going to shit… yada, yada, yada. I’m sitting in the sun in right field at the Cubs game with my son; F all that noise. Hold on… to watch the FIRST PLACE Chicago Cubs… yeah, how’s that? Memorial Day is a good point in the season, where you look around, and see who’s who. Not counting any chickens, and you know my reservations come postseason time with the current starting pitching staff, but… the Cubs certainly appear on their way to the playoffs this year. Lot of baseball to go. And on this day, the starting pitching got a big boost… from the wind howling in at Wrigley. It was a 3-1 win for the Cubbies; my son and I are 1-0 on the season. We started talking about a potential road trip walking back to the car after the game.

It was a little cool, but overall, a beautiful day at the ball park. As always, we hope for a Cubs win, but… that’s not the most important thing on this day. Being at the game with my boy… He said Wrigley is like our 3rd home (with the United Center slightly edging it out). I nodded. Yes, it does feel like home. Go Cubs!
