The Cubs continue to successfully navigate the easy part of their schedule. On Wednesday night at Wrigley, they finished the sweep of the hapless Rockies. My God are they bad. Lucky for them, the wind was blowing in the entire series, or it would have really gotten out of hand. Still, PCA was able to poke one out on Wednesday, taking a ball off the ground and depositing it into the right field bleachers; he good. And the Rockies… they’re not.
The Colorado Rockies are on an all-time, Rocky Mountain Low, record MLB pace for losing. They have 9 wins, which would be pretty good if it were the first part of April… it’s almost June. 9-47… a 16.1 winning percentage! But that’s not our problem. The Cubs have to beat whoever is on the schedule. Lately, there have been a bunch of bums. It started back on May 12th with a series vs Miami… then came the White Sox, then the Marlins again, then the Reds (they’re halfway decent), and then finally the Rockies. Our record in this 15 game stretch? 12-3. That’s called winning the games you’re supposed to win, which is half the battle. Now if we can hold our own against the better teams… we’ll be good. Oh yeah, the Reds are coming in town next. Keep the beatings going!
Looking ahead a bit, after this weekend’s series, comes a long, challenging road trip. Three games in DC don’t seem too scary, but then three in Detroit, and three in Philly. How good are we? We’ll find out, eventually. Looking at the standings right now, the facts show we’re pretty good right now. We’re in first place in the relatively weak NL Central. Yet, we’re only 3 games up on the St. Louis shit birds. Why do I have a feeling they’re going to be hanging around all year? Milwaukee has been playing better… Moral of the story: the Cubs need to keep winning series, which is exactly what we’ve been doing. In fact, no team in the majors has won more series than the Cubs. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Meanwhile, 25 games back before the end of May, the Rockies are free falling to major league history. I would think Sox fans would be ecstatic that their year of infamy will be erased out of the record books only one year later, although I heard one Sox fan kind of disappointed… guess he wanted to keep some record… haha. Sox aren’t doing half bad, at least compared to last year, at least compared to the Rockies. Sure, the Sox are the 2nd worst team in baseball, but they have twice as many wins as the Rockies!!! The Sox almost won a series in New York against the Mets… almost. Baby steps.
June is right around the corner. The Cubs bats are hot. Young guys are contributing. New stars are emerging. This could be a very fun summer. Wrigley may be rocking quite often. Can’t wait to be back. Go Cubs!
