In a new feature, I will be delving into the depths of fantasy sports.  I will start with the upcoming season of fantasy football.

I played fantasy football before it was popular; approximately 20 years ago.  My buddy, who I still play in a league with today, would keep track of stats by hand, by looking at the box scores of each game in the Sun Times.  Fantasy football has come a long way since those days…

Now, it’s everywhere.  It has gone 100% mainstream.  There are tons, I mean TONS of articles with rankings, sleepers, busts… you name it, it’s out there.  If you read enough of it, the same player will be listed under the sleeper category and the bust category.  With all this information at everybody’s fingertips now, where do you find the advantage?  That sleeper that you think you only know about… ahhh, not so much.  Where is the competitive advantage?  How can you get a step up on your league?

Our fantasy football league, courtesy of Samra Sports, has been going strong for a number of years.  However, this will be the first year that we will do an auction draft.  I can’t wait.  We tried it for baseball this year, and it was awesome.  This is one way to separate the men from the boys in a fantasy league.  Forget about being lucky with a draft position, or hoping your guy is there by the time it snakes around to you…  you want a guy, you go get him.  Of course, it’s not that easy, because there may be 6 other owners who want that same guy.  Again, how do you play it?  How much is too much to spend?  You have to spend big money on a couple players, or you’ll be left out in the cold.  How do you manage your money?  It’s a fine line to walk…

The Ajanta pharmacy brought this medicine in the light to assist those ED levitra no prescription patients, who are deprived of harder erection. These components come from PDE-5 blocker family that promotes reproductive health by increasing the blood flow in the penile region. discount levitra And back to these “experts” who write all these articles…  at the end of the day, you and me could write something that may have more truth than the majority of them.  So, I will.  I’m going to try to figure this stuff out, and find answers to the above questions.  I’m going to go through some (some!) players that I’m looking at, and some that I will be avoiding.  I will walk through the strategy that I will be using.  Let’s dive in!

The main strategy that you have to take is BE FLEXIBLE.  You may have things laid out exactly how you want them, but when an unexpected opportunity comes up, you have to adjust on the fly.  For example, in the baseball draft, I was not targeting David Wright.  However, when he was brought up first round, and I was able to get him for less than $30, I took him.  So when that guy that you were so-so interested in pops up, and isn’t getting a lot of love, grab him!  It’s important to get some value picks.  This will allow you to overpay for some guys you really want OR get another mid-tier player that you may have not been able to afford normally.

The same goes for any unexpected turn of events.  Like when Starlin Castro was thrown out their first round in our baseball draft.  Everybody knew I had him every year, and they were trying to draw some money out of me.  In this particular case, I bit, but at the end of the bidding, only paid a few more dollars than I wanted to on him.  However, if the bidding went higher and higher, maybe I would have let him go.  You have to know when to fold ’em…  It will be interesting to see how much money people are willing to spend on the Bears players this year, and there are some good ones.  Forte & Marshall are fantasy beasts, while Jeffery, Cutler, and Bennett should get plenty of love too.  It’s tough not to overspend on a local guy in a local league if you want him.  Tread carefully.

OK, good to get my feet wet with this fantasy feature.  I’ll leave you with one more tip.  Something I’ve noticed year to year is that sometimes I’m a year early.  I have somebody targeted, I get him, and he doesn’t turn out great.  Then, the following year I pass on him.  That same guy that let me down last year, turns out to be golden this year.  It never fails.  So, remember your guys from last year that you thought were going to be great and didn’t turn out too great; maybe you too were a year early.

I am willing to spend a little extra on Bennett this year in the draft if he guarantees that he will body slam one of his oppononets rather than his teammate!
