February 22, 2018: Black Eyes

Have you ever been hit with a baseball bat in the face?  Have you ever hit anybody in the face with a baseball bat?  I’ve never been hit in the face with a bat, but I have hit somebody in the face with one; it was one of the scariest days.

I was young.  I was playing baseball in my back yard.  Flipping the ball to myself and whacking it… over and over and over again.  I was in a zone.  I had not noticed that someone had crept up behind me.  I took my swing and BAM!  I hit my little sister right in the face with the baseball bat.  My heart dropped.

She was screaming crying.  I took her inside to my Mom, as I apologized over and over.  I just hoped she was OK.  A trip to the hospital and a few X-rays later, she was.  She didn’t look OK though; she had 2 black eyes.  She looked like she had been beaten with a baseball bat.

The black eyes went away, and I eventually felt better about it.  I’m so glad it wasn’t worse.  Of course it was an accident, but still… to hurt someone you love is never fun.  Happy birthday sister.

I’m not going to say it’s like that, but it sort of is a black eye if you may… the tanking that is going on currently throughout the sports world.  I get it, I do.  I understand some form of this has been going on for years.  I understand the Cubs participated in this practice before winning their World Series.  This seems to be the blueprint to success, although there is no sure fire approach.

Erectile dysfunction can occur when any of the events is canadian pharmacy for viagra disturbed. In the NBA, it seems worse.  I blame the Super Teams, which started with LeBron and was perfected by Durant.  There are only a couple teams that have a remote chance of beating the Warriors.  So… if you understand you can’t win it all, then why not try to lose them all, and get a higher draft pick, to get in better position to take a shot at it next year.

The Bulls are one of those teams.  The playoffs aren’t going to happen, so whatever remote chance a playoff team has, doesn’t exist.  So, now the point is to lose every single game to get the best chance at the top pick.  I get it, but still…

I was joking when I said they should start Felicio, but they did it!  Worse yet, they started Cam Payne.  Talk about no shame in their game.  Forget trying to win, we’re talking about straight tanking, and if Cuban got fined for talking about it, then I don’t understand how the Bulls couldn’t get fined for doing this.  Seeing Robin Lopez and Justin Holliday in street clothes when there is nothing wrong with them, just doesn’t feel right.  Yes, I know they are not part of the future, but still…

It’s like a catch 22.  I want them to get the best pick in the draft, and to do that, I understand losing improves their chances, but… I don’t want them to lose on purpose.  I want them to at least try… and actually, they did against the Sixers on Thursday night.  Portis led the way with 38 points.  Lavine poured in 23, while the other new starter Nwaba poured in 21.  We even saw Noah Vonieh play…  The Bulls should have won this game, but they didn’t.  The plan didn’t backfire, and the first loss of the 2nd half of the season was secured.  Bad thing is, the other 7 teams below them aren’t winning either…

I’ll feel much better when this year is over.  With one good pick guaranteed, and two 1st round picks probable, this tank mode should switch pretty quickly next year.  It can’t come a moment too soon.  Go Bulls!

Black eyes…will never forget that incident or the black eyes to follow on our lil’ sister. Accidents certainly do happen and glad this one was not worse. As for tanking being black eyes on sports, I agree. I understand the process, obviously, and notice it is far more common and widespread than people might know. What really sucks is that the fans are the ones paying the price. Who else really loses here? I mean, if the organization is “ok” with tanking, prices to see this kind of play should “tank” as well. The die hard fans and those that are visiting to watch a game should not be paying full price to watch teams try to lose. There should be some sort of incentive for teams to reach a certain amount of wins each year that balances out the tanking aspect. Teams fall 20 games below .500 (or pick a number), their ticket prices and concessions are half off. Something needs to be done. Teams willing to tank should pay the price to do so. As for this year, there are about 7 other teams competing with the Bulls in tanking. GO BULLS!!!
