February 6, 2018: Fading Fast

posted in: Blackhawks | 2

Each game that goes by is more painful than the previous one.  The lackluster performance in Vancouver followed by the OT loser in Calgary, topped by another loss on home ice vs the Flames…again.  There is no other way to look at it; the Blackhawks are fading fast.

We keep expecting that moment.  That moment during a game where they turn it around.   That game where they begin a nice long winning streak.  We keep waiting.  I’m not sure it’s coming.

Calgary is one of the teams between us and the playoffs; that list is growing by the way.  So playing them in a home and home series was just what we should have wanted.   Opportunity to jump 4 points on them.  Even after the OT loss in Calgary, I thought, a win at least makes up a point on them.   Instead, 4-1 was the point swing; the gap gets bigger.

The replay of the Hawks goal that resulted in a non goal.  The replay of the Flames goal that held up.  Not sure about you, but they barely looked at that one.  And then the empty netter that sealed it, which was preceded by a bad Toews pass and a slow Seabrook pursuing.  The UC emptied quickly.

When you look at the problems of his team, we can talk power play…rightfully so.  But as I’ve said, they just don’t seem to want it.  And to be more specific, it’s the veterans that just don’t seem to be able to push us over that hill.  It’s the young guys flying around, scoring the goals.  It’s the old guard who we keep waiting for to step up and start us on that run.

I can’t really rip any of them..I mean, I can, and will make my comments, but…these guys are proven winners.  Not just one good season…3 fricking Stanley Cups!!!  Are you kidding me?  How can we trash the core?  I know it’s a what have you done for me lately world, but come on.  They’ve earned their stripes.  They’re not playing well.  So what can we do?

The Captain has been one of the targets; yes, Seabrook has been THE target, but Toews now.  Heck, why stop there?  Duncan Keith anyone?  The Sharp reunion has been a bust.  Crow has been hurt.  Hammer is gone.  No more Hossa.  Saad has been struggling big time.  Only Kane is left performing at a high level.  I’m kind of at a loss…

Trade Toews?  No, no fricking way.  He’s our Captain.  It sucks to see him play badly.  Maybe if just one of those goals goes in…  The reality is that this year’s playoff hopes are slowly fading.

The games remaining are decreasing, the points out of the playoffs are not decreasing.  The playoff streak is in serious jeopardy.  Still holding out hope. Go Blackhawks!

The Bhawks are fading fast, like they have a weight tied on them, kind of like seabs slow ass. Just when we thought they might make a move with that 2-1 win in Nashville, the Hawks have since answered with a loss to the nucks, an ot loss in Calgary, followed by a loss at the UC to Calgary. Just like we keep waiting for them to respond, maybe they keep waiting for that switch to flip…not sure it is going to happen. There is still time left, but games are slipping by as the distance to the playoffs grows. Toews is struggling, but he is not alone. Saad started strong and looks lost again. Sharp finally found the ice again but not sure why. Hard to pinpoint a specific issue, but the Hawks need one of those defining games in a season to get things turned around, and fast! Hope is still alive for the 3 time champs…have to believe! GO HAWKS!!!

    Fading fast my ass…….they’re DONE!!!!!!!
See you guys next year, after your extended ‘vacation’. Need to work on team speed and apparently send the D-men for color blind testing. They seem to keep sending the puck to the wrong color jersey’s.
