January 14, 2018: NFL Walk Off

posted in: Bears | 1

It ain’t every day you see a walk off win in the NFL.  As a matter of fact, almost never; first time in the playoffs I believe.  The Keenum to Diggs TD pass to beat the Saints was a crazy ending.  It will definitely go down as one of the best plays in NFL history.

Or one of the worst, depending on your point of view.  For that Saints, and their defense, and that Safety, it will not.  How do you let that happen?  I know what the safety was trying to do there… avoiding contact and the pass interference call, but… first off, he shouldn’t have been the only man to beat there.  I know he took out another defender while trying to avoid contact, but there should have been a couple more guys deep, no?  Worst case, push him out of bounds and make them kick a 50 yarder.  That was a brutal ending to the season for the Saints.

But for the Vikings, let the celebration commence; not too much, because you have to go to Philly next week for a chance to get back home to the Super Bowl.  That’s pretty damn cool too.  I think they’re going to do it.  I’ve noticed the whole “SKOL” thing, and wondered what the hell it was.  I recognized it as a “toast”, like saying “cheers”; it’s become the Vikings war cry.  To see the whole crowd chant it at the end there, that was pretty cool.  Then I thought, am I actually rooting for the Vikings here?

Then I thought, they’re in the Bears division… I have to hate them somehow.  Let me think.  The first memory that comes to mind is the McMahon comeback game; that’s a great memory.  I remember the Peanut pick against Moss in the end zone.  I do remember Peterson running all over the Bears for some crazy amount of yardage, but then I remember the team Sweetness ran for his record 275 yards on the one of the original flu games.  I remember Kramer to AC… didn’t like Cris Carter…. remember Randall and Herschel… obviously when Favre went there, the hate followed.  Still trying to think of a reason to hate them…

Wow, that’s pretty crazy.  I think we beat them in the playoffs one year too if I’m not mistaken.  So, no bad Vikings memories?  Somebody help me.  I can’t root for an intra-division team to win it all, can I?  I guess I would root for the pathetic Lions if they ever got there.  At this second, I would not mind one bit if the Vikings won it all.

Honestly, anybody but the Pats.  The Steelers lost thankfully; I hope the Jaguars can do the same to the Patriots… wishful thinking.  I wouldn’t mind seeing the Eagles go too… like I said, anybody but New England.  Championship weekend is up next; who you got?

Next season will be a lot different of course.  Yeah, unfortunately the Patriots may still be in the conversation, but in the NFC, the Bears will still be playing, right?  I’m hoping.  Bear Down!

What an ending! What a horrible way for the saints season to end! Did not watch the game except for the end. I saw when the viqueens kicked the go ahead field goal but knew that they left too much time for brees and the saints. Sure enough, the aints went down and kicked the go ahead field goal. Then they have the viqueens in a good spot, no timeouts with about 30 yards needed for field goal range, and they give up a td. Wow, what a terrible play by the safety, but an even more terrible defensive scheme to allow that to happen. You cannot give up a td. Yes, a field goal wins the game, too, but with the history of viqueens kickers missing big playoff kicks, as well as the fact that their kicker missed already in the game, I would have let them have that more than anything. Oh well, can’t imagine if the Bears lost a playoff game like that…ouch! Time for the jags to take out the pats and meet the eagles in the SB…who’s excited about that one? HAHAHA.
