March 14, 2018: Bracket Time

How do you do it?  You do do it right?  Fill out a bracket for March Madness that is.  I thought everybody just did it.

It’s one of those special times of the year.  I haven’t watched one college basketball game all year, yet I’ll be filling one out.  It’s a crapshoot anyways.  I’ll pick a bunch of underdogs and hope to get lucky.  I guess as long as I pick the winner of it all I have chance.

We’re running a little pool at work, where we each get a random team.  We take the top 8 seeds and distribute them to each person.  There will be people with the same team; we don’t bother with the nine or higher seeds.  As we went along assigning teams to everybody, we approached my name.  As someone reached in to pick it out, I hoped for the best.  Last year my team sucked.  This year I got a little lucky.  The paper was unfolded and Xavier was my choice.

That made things easy, as far as who I’m rolling with for the tourney champ.  Like I said, I didn’t watch a game all year.  This random reason was as good as any, plus they are one of the four number one teams.  I keep hoping to see one of them get upset.

Since I am playing catchup, I know that this actually did happen…for the first time ever.  I had a feeling.  In fact, I actually picked a 16 seed to win in the first round.  I just picked the wrong one.  Hey, I had a dream that Kansas lost, so I went with it and picked Penn.  When I saw they were winning 21-11 in the first half, I thought I was a genius.  When the game ended, I felt like that asshole who was dumb enough to pick a 16 seed to win.  Haha…

Yeah, it’s bracket time.  I’ve won money actually before…a couple times.  I rode the fab five back in the day to some money.  Carmelo and Cuse carried me to the grand prize over Kansas.  The best place to spend this special time of year is that city in the desert.  I’ve spent a few there too…

The time when DePaul played Dayton first round.  I believe there was one other time, before my last tourney in Vegas during my bachelor party.  Lining up to make the bets that first day of the tourney…sitting down in the sports book with a drink watching all those TVs.  Tearing up those tickets after I lose.  Memories…

There were those multiple times at lunch from work.  Some of those times when I shouldn’t have went back to work…one time when I didn’t.  Yes, it’s a special time of year.

Now the building I work in hosts a little viewing party with a nice spread.  From one year to the next, we always enjoy the madness.

So go Xavier go.  If I luckily picked the right team, I may see some more money.  That is of course if I don’t pick every other fricking game wrong.  But hey, at least I didn’t pick Virginia.

March Madness! One of the best sports times of the year is filling out the brackets and watching college basketball for 4 days straight to get down to the sweet sixteen. So many upsets, shockers, and last second buckets. This tourney has been crazy so far. Purdue was picked as my team at work, and I rode them in my bracket until the elite 8. My official winner is Gonzaga. They survived the weekend. 2 #1 teams did not. A #16 finally beat a #1…by 20! The Ramblers of Loyola are still dancing…hell yeah! What a sWeet story that has been and could continue to be! There is definitely no better place to be for opening weekend than Vegas! Betting on and watching all the games with drinks aplenty is great…what an atmosphere! Can’t imagine how many brackets are shot already…hoping mine is still decent since I have the zags winning…we shall see, but I would love for Loyola to win it all now! Go Ramblers!!!
