October 18, 2014: Purpose Picks

posted in: Bears | 1

The fantasy picks roll on to week 7…  I’ve been a mini-roll, with a 7-4 record in the past 2 weeks.  My overall record stands at 17-21.

I enjoy making these picks that go against the grain.  That’s how I manage my own fantasy team, for example, starting Kirk Cousins over Tom Brady last week.  Yeah, it turned out bad, but I followed my gut, and most of the time, OK, half the time, OK, some of the time, I’m right.  These things happen every week, where lower ranked guys outscore these higher ranked, never-ever-bench guys; it’s just a matter of hitting it right.  This is what I try to do.  17 out of 38 would actually be an outstanding percentage say if I was a MLB hitter.  At .447, I would lead the league in hitting…

Each week there is usually purpose behind my picks, but none more than this week.  I go head to head with the commissioner of our league.  I have some personal twists on each pick this week, as I plan to turn our matchup into the biggest blowout of the week.  Let’s dance Mo.

QB:  Eli Manning over Peyton Manning

Yeah, I went there.  The commish’s starting QB who he has a man crush on will get stifled by the San Francisco defense on Sunday night.  Remember, this should have been the Super Bowl matchup before Denver gave up the long TD pass to Flacco, which Joe turned into big $ for himself.  Who better to outpoint him this week than his little brother Eli.  Last week, Eli was the guy I picked against, and won… handily.  This week I’m asking him to flip the script.  I actually think the G-Men will beat the Cowboys this week.  For that to happen, Eli needs a big bounce back week without Mr. Salsa.  Randle and Beckham Jr and even Donnell will have big weeks as well.

RB:  Jerick McKinnon over Fred Jackson

This one is even more personal.  The commish wielded his power to veto a trade earlier this year that had me trading a backup RB in McKinnon for a WR4 Jordan Matthews.  I guess I reached my trade quota…  How does a trade between a backup RB and a WR4 get vetoed?  I still don’t know, but what I do know, is that I still have him on my roster… if for anything, for this week to personally deliver some payback.  I picked Fred Jackson because he’ll be on that same field on Sunday, and I like that.

Reggie Wayne is one of the commissioner’s guys.  We did an auction this year.  All he needed to do was bid one more dollar to get him, but… he didn’t, and I got him.  Go big or go home is what I always say, and who better to go against then the #1 rated WR this week.  He’s burned me twice.  If he does it again, I’m done picking against him.  REGGIE, REGGIE, REGGIE

TE:  Scott Chandler over Jared Cook

This one has another personal twist.  Scott Chandler was on the commish’s team last year during his TD stretch.  Scott Chandler was on the waiver wire this week.  Scott Chandler is now on my team, and I will be starting him over Heath Miller.  Maybe I screw myself, but I think Scott wants to remind his ex-owner what he’s missing, and he’ll do it this week at the expense of poor Jared Cook, who is going against the Seattle defense coming off a loss.

WIld Card:  Alshon Jeffery over Marshawn Lynch

We’re going with hometown boy Alshon to double up his good week last week against, you guessed it, the commish’s starting RB.  I’m either going to be really right this week, or really wrong.

So there it is… the gauntlet has been thrown down Mo.  I’m putting all my eggs in one basket with my fantasy picks and fantasy team going hand in hand this week.  You ready to get blown out?
