September 27, 2014: Making My Move

More picks, more picks, more picks…

Record for the year is sitting at 8-14.  Hey, that’s not so bad when I’m going against the grain with every single pick I make.  Yeah, that’s right.  I challenge yahoo, espn, and all the other expert rankings.  I’m sticking with that.  As the format evolves week to week, that will remain the same.

9 picks last week was too many; I’ve said that.  Head and heart are one for me when it comes to sports in general, especially my teams.  No more breakdown that way.  I think I’m going to stick with 5 picks for now:  one for each position and we’ll keep the wildcard.  Let…the mission…. begin!

QB:  Geno Smith over Matthew Stafford

Yeah, go big or go home.  I like picking guys that are playing against each other if you haven’t noticed.  This is more a reflection of Detroit on the road than anything;  they’re flaky!  I actually thought Geno Smith played OK against us last week.  He has injuries to deal with, but against Detroit’s good run D, they will be forced to go through the air… and they will… he will.  Geno bigger than Stafford as the Jets beat the Lions this week.

RB:  Darren McFadden over Lamar Miller

Another head to head matchup, this time across the pond.  With MJD probably still out, McFadden wil continue to get the lionshare of carries.  With Knowshown still out, Lamar is the starting running back for the Fins.  They both play for not so good teams, but I think Oakland gets their first win this week, so I’m expecting McFadden to play a big role, both on the ground and in the air.  They’ll be undefeated in England, and McFadden will outscore Lamar.

WR:  Steve Smith over Andre Johnson

Steve Smith returns to Carolina.  Big game a brewing.  Bigger than Andre Johnson vs a mildly tough Buffalo defense.  Plus I just traded Andre Johnson, and just acquired the Buffalo defense, so there.

TE:  Heath Miller over Antonio Gates

I’m going with my newly acquired TE who has a great matchup against Tampa Bay.  Yeah, it’s not Jimmy Graham, but I’m going heads up with Antonio Gates.  He will be even tougher to beat with the matchup against the Jags, and with Ladarius Green probably out for the game.  Don’t matter.  Gates is trending down… just enough for Miller to outscore him this week.  I was hoping Green was playing this week, because I thought he would have a breakout game.  Maybe next week…  I need Ladarius to be the man out there… NOT Gates.

Wild Card:  Cordarrelle Patterson over Rob Gronkowski

It can’t get any worse than Matt Cassell, can it?  At home, he will be heavily involved in the offense.  Meanwhile, on Monday Night, in Kansas City, a suspect New England team will struggle.  Is the Brady to Gronk magic gone?  I won’t say that, but for one night, it won’t be so special.

So they’re you go… not exactly a six pack for your pleasure, but five beauts to boot.  I’m going to make my move this week, and go 3-2 or better with these picks.  I’m feeling confident.  This is the week I turn things around, both in my picks and my league.  After last week’s disastrous benching of Cousins, I hope to get newly acquired Charles on the field for MNF… that could be the deciding factor.  Him, Forte, and Julio all line up for the Blitz now, and they’re all projected to have big weeks.. this week and every week.  Time to move up the standings.  Time to get some picks right.  Time to get in the zone.  Week 4 starts now!
