April 14, 2020: Draft Goes On

posted in: Bears | 0

While we wait on the rest of the sports world to restart, we continue to watch our old Bulls and Blackhawks games; can’t wait for the Last Dance coming this week. The one sport that has been unaffected at this time is the NFL. And while the draft was rescheduled, and will not be some big, live production, the draft goes on; it will be next Thursday. Time to take a peek at the Bears’ needs.

Looks like the Bears have eight draft picks, the highest two being in the second round; no picks in the third or fourth rounds. I’m not up to speed on any draft prospects, so this will not be about that. I’m going to be identifying what I believe are the positions of need for the Bears. I know Pace likes to go with the best guy available; I don’t have a problem with that. Yet, if there are multiple guys on that tier come our pick, we should be leaning towards certain positions.

One position we should NOT be picking is QB. We’ve been through this a couple times. It’s Mitch and Nick this year. If Mitch doesn’t do well, he’ll be gone, but Nick will still be here. If that is the case, then we should target a QB next year. Although the Bears only have two top round picks, the goal should be to get impact players for THIS year; QB is covered at this point… in the best way the Bears could.

Despite all the evidence, we keep smacking into many sildenafil levitra amerikabulteni.com variations on the centralization themes. At RB, I think we’re OK too. Cohen and Montgomery should be able to handle most of the workload. We’ll have a couple other RBs on the roster, but don’t think we need to draft one. We have a lot of WRs in the mix. Robinson is a legit number one WR; after that, it’s a toss up. Miller has shown signs. I’d love to see more from Ridley and Wims. I’d love to see Patterson more involved. If we don’t think Ridley and Wims can contribute this year, and someone we can snag in the 2nd round can, then I think that should be considered. What about the train wreck that is the TE position? 9 TEs on the roster? OK, Graham was the big signing, although I’m not sold. Will Burton finally be healthy? Even if he is, is he something we can hang our hat on? Any of the other 7 guys worth a shit? I think we can all admit Shaheen is a bust, right? The tight end position, which is supposed to be one of the QBs best friends, sucked last year. Will Graham make it that much better? Would there be somebody available in the 2nd round that can step in and make an impact this year at this position? The final glance at the offense looks at the OL. This was supposed to be an area of strength last year; it wasn’t. Mostly the same crew returning with a new OL coach. One place you can never have enough depth is in the trenches. OL should always be on the radar.

OK, that’s my first swipe. Let’s take a look at the defense next.
