April 2, 2019: The Hate Files XL

Feels like a milestone of sorts for this feature.  The big 4-0.  Why now?  Well, nobody played in Chicago today #1… that’s really the only reason.  This one has been brewing for a while, but per the Hate Files rule, had to wait until this person was no longer playing for one of my teams.  I would have liked him to be gone the day after his infamous missed kick, but we had to be patient.  I figured it would be inevitable; I had really hoped it was.  And it finally happened… he was let go, and now I will let go.  Cody Parkey, welcome to your Hate File.

It just so happens that today is the 10th anniversary of a certain Bears QB… a guy who has one of these files all to himself; I posted that almost 2 years ago.  Other ex-Chicago players that have their own entry include Carlos Boozer, the 2014 Chicago Bears, Daniel Murphy (although he earned his stripes before he wasted a couple months in a Cubs uniform), the 2015-2016 Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose, the above mentioned Jay Cutler, Dwyane Wade, Fred Hoiberg, and now Cody Parkey.  What a rag tag group that is.  Cody is the first kicker to earn this honor, so he’s got that going for him.

The hate for Cody was instantaneous the minute he hit the upright that ended the Bears season back on January 6th.  Sure, there were the rumblings that he sucked in the pre-season; I saw this suckage first hand at the Bears Lions game at Soldier Field where we joked he left the stadium after hitting his 4th upright of the game.  But I rolled with Nagy… gave him the benefit of the doubt, wanted to support him as his teammates did.  Well, that blew up in our faces.  The weak link of the entire Bears team ended up costing us the season.  Yes.  Forget all that other shit.  If this professional did his job, the Bears were moving on… and based on how the rest of the playoffs went, including the dud ass Super Bowl, who knows how it could have been different.  Who cares any more at this point…  but I will not forget.

That’s how this hate stuff works…  Cody Parkey will be on every list of most hated athletes in Chicago from now until the end of time.  And yeah, the stuff he did after the game… going on national TV, smiling, after a gut wrenching loss that his teammates and coaches were still getting over… a loss that took me a hell of a long time to get over… F him.  That was jacked up… if he wasn’t already gone, that sealed the deal.  You don’t do that shit.  The great season that was for the Bears came to a crashing halt because of a kicker… who then parades around on national TV like nothing happened???

I’m sure he’ll go on to kick somewhere else next year; I really don’t care.  It cost us another few million dollars releasing him, but oh well; I’m sure the Bears could have went to the fans to collect money to offset that… they would have got it all back… I would have chipped in $20.  Anything, absolutely anything to not ever ever see this guy in a Bears uniform again.  Thankfully, the Bears sent him packing and I saved my $20.  Because on 2nd thought, this guy isn’t worth a dime of my hard earned money; he isn’t worth a nickel of his own damn salary.  So take this two cents, and shove it up your ass Cody… you will always have a place in the Hate Files.  Sorry ass kicker.
