April 22, 2020: The Jerrys

The Last Dance has brought back the ill will we all felt towards Jerry Krause back in the day. It’s not like he didn’t do any good… He DOES deserve credit for the dynasty. The only thing is, he doesn’t deserve MORE credit than the players or the coach. It’s a team effort for any championship team; you need folks contributing on every level of the organization. The Bulls had that. The Bulls also had the greatest player of all time; this made this team different. It wasn’t just another superstar… every team has those. It was THE superstar, and because of that, exceptions should have been made across the board for any and all preconceived notions about how to run an organization, period. These exceptions were not made, and a dynasty may have ended prematurely.

Organizations win championships was the gist of that famous quote. I’ve already said it takes folks on every level to make it happen, but to downplay the contribution of the players on the court going through the close to 100 games per season it takes to win a title… to downplay the contribution of THE greatest player… to feel like you as a GM is more important than the guy coaching these guys day in and day out… dealing with multiple personalities… keeping the chemistry strong… reviewing the scouting reports of each and every team in the league… making game to game, in-game adjustments. Nah… sorry Jerry. Somebody should have set you straight, and that somebody is you Reinsdorf.

I love it that everybody told him not to hire Krause, but since he wanted the job, he got it… great hiring strategy. What would have happened without Jordan, who by the way was drafted pre-Krause? How many titles would the Bulls have won? How many championships would the organization have given this city? Crickets… If you didn’t already know, you’re beginning to see how this whole thing developed. It was Jordan at the middle of it all. HE started the turnaround for this entire organization. Because of this fact, because the Bulls were fortunate to draft the greatest player to ever lace them up, exceptions should have been made. Reinsdorf should have reeled in his dog; he did for one year… maybe more we’re hearing now… thank you I guess? It shouldn’t have stopped there. This team should have been kept together until they lost… then have at it. You don’t start shipping everybody coming off another championship. If the Bulls DID go 82-0, it SHOULD have mattered. To say that is just asinine.

The Jerrys should have walked into the room… screw it, just Reinsdorf, with his checkbook, and sat down with Phil, MJ, Pip, and Rodman. What will it take for everybody to come back again? And if.. I mean WHEN they won another title in 1999, repeat the same exercise. But nooooo…. you sided with Krause, and robbed us of a chance to win another to start a rebuild? How’s that rebuild going by the way? 22 years with nada… yep. Thanks Reinsdorf. You don’t get to weasel out of this. YOU are the owner, NOT Krause. YOU should have stepped in and made things right as long as you had to. But you had already probably shifted gears and attention to your other team… doing a bang up job there… 1 title in how long? And by the way, you still have your head up the Sox ass while the Bulls have been floundering; glad to see some positive changes finally with the organization over the past couple weeks.

Yeah, when you have the GOAT, and you have an active dynasty, you take advantage, and you win as much as you can. THIS should have been the guiding principle that overrode EVERYTHING! As we know, this is NOT promised; as we know, what we were living back then was once in a lifetime. As we know, we haven’t had another title since. Any questions?
